World's Best Superfoods Part 5

www.superfoodhealthyliving.com www.superfoodhealthyliving.com 4. Japanese When Dr. Miller was traveling around the world doing research for her book, she found that traditional Japanese cuisine-especially the version eaten on the island of Okinawa, where people often live to 100-plus-was superhealthy. " Not only are Okinawans blessed with a diet rich in cancer-fighting fruits and vegetables, but they also prepare them in the healthiest way possible, with a light steam or a quick stir-fry," Dr. Miller explains. They also practice Hara Hachi Bu, which means "eat until you are eight parts (or 80 percent) full," she says. These simple diet rules may be why people in Japan are far less likely than Americans to get breast or colon cancer. Japanese staples that are amazing for your health include antioxidant-rich yams and green tea; cruciferous, calcium-rich veggies like bok choy; iodine-rich seaweed (good for your thyroid); omega-3-rich seafood; shiitake mushrooms (a source of iron, potassium, zinc, copper, and folate); and whole-soy foods. "The soy that's good for you is unprocessed, not made into fake meat," Dr. Miller says. Think: tofu, edamame, miso, and tempeh, a nutty tasting soybean cake made from fermented soybeans. Healthy choices the next time you visit a Japanese restaurant? Miso soup, which typically contains seaweed and tofu, or a simple veggie-and-tofu stir-fry. Danger zone: White rice can cause a spike in blood sugar, so ask for brown rice, rich in fat-burning ...

Slurping your soup in Japan

I had to stop eating for a minute and try to capture some of this SLURPLGURGLINGING... a sad, habit taken from China... how the Japanese can be so advanced in so many ways and yet still cling on to this custom of slurping their soup is beyond me. Oh well, at least they don't spit in the street like in some other cultures. I didn't catch any good slurps in this short clip... maybe that's a good thing. The people at the table next to us were making an ungodly racket with all their slurping. When in Rome, do as the Romans.... sorry... I can kneel in the seiza for hours, bathe naked at the onsen, bow repeatedly, eat with chopsticks, drive on the left side of the road, shower and bathe before bed, and all that other great stuff, but I won't slurp while eating. It's just gross to me, and incredibly disrespectful to the people who are trying to eat in peace, and I feel that way despite having lived in Europe, North America and Asia.

Exploring Macrobiotics

Many people have heard of people with cancer turning to macrobiotics to detoxify their bodies and technically, its better to detoxify before you get sick, so here’s the scoop on this unique diet.  The philosophy of macrobiotics is based on energetics–the idea of balance between Yin (soft, slow, water, cold, tranquil, gentle, and corresponding to the night) and Yang (defined as hot, fire, restless, hard, dry, excitement, and corresponding to the day) energies in our life and diet. Although the macrobiotic dietary guidelines are only one aspect of a more significant spiritual system, it’s the diet that’s drawn the most attention in the West.  The diet is based on dietary principles of simplicity and avoidance of "toxins" that come from eating dairy, meats, and oily foods.  The standard macrobiotic diet consists of:

Sushi no Fish! 3-9-11

Went out to grab sushi with Justin and Littleman. Littleman seems to like teriyaki chicken. I had a really good miso soup that they assured me that there was no fish used in the making of. Also had some tempura veggies which were really good. I went all out on playing video games tonight too. Use Effective Home Remedies to Get Rid of Nausea

Nausea is a symptom of a health condition so to treat nausea you have to discover the real cause. Nausea is generally accompanied by vomiting but there can be exceptions, too. The problem that appears when nausea is combined with vomiting is the risk of the dehydration.
Nausea can be cause by many factors as digestion problems, food poisoning, over eating, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, traveling in crowded buses or trains, food intolerance, and not only. Nausea often occurs during pregnancy.
Nausea is also a sign of different illnesses like weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, gallstones, pancreatitis, cancer, headache, fever, diabetes gastroenteritis or depression.
Fortunately this symptom can be treated through natural treatments too. For example -
1. You can consume non-carbonated syrup. Take 1-2 tablespoons of non-carbonated syrup and your stomach will be cooled down immediately.
2. Gingerroot is another remedy. Take 2 capsules and you will get an immediate relief. Ginger is recommended, too. Put a little fresh ginger root in a cup of tea.
3. Slippery elm, herbal candies and red raspberry are known as very beneficial treatments for nausea.
4. Teas prepared from licorice, chamomile or peppermint offers a great relief. It is recommended to drink 3-4 cups of tea prepared from these herbs daily. You can also chew some peppermint. For the pregnant women it is recommended the apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of honey. They can also have some glucose biscuits or some crackers in the morning. A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and one of honey are mixed in a glass of cold water. Take this mixture every night before you go to bed.
5. Mix about 30 gm of wheat germ with some milk and take it every hour and you will get rid by morning nausea.
6. Rice water is another natural remedy. 25 grams of rice are boiled in 50 grams of water. Drain the rice and drink the water.
7. A half teaspoon of ground cumin seeds is very beneficial, too. It helps you to get rid of vomiting and nausea.
8. Ginger ale, green tea, fennel seeds are well known for their beneficial effects in this case.
9. Drink lemon juice. You can add a teaspoon of honey to sweeten it. It helps you to get rid of the vomiting feeling. You can also eat lemon with a little salt or you can smell a lemon (cut the lemon to get a greater effect).
10. A banana eaten before meals is very helpful for pregnant women who suffer from nausea.
11. Natural juices made from different fruits as grapes, oranges, apples have proved to be very helpful in treating this unpleasant condition.
12. Boil some rosemary leaves in 100 ml water and add a teaspoon of honey. Let it for three minutes and then drink the mixture. Do this daily and you will avoid this unpleasant symptom.
13. Another natural treatment consists in mixing ground cucumbers, little sugar and water to obtain a concoction. You can also try to have some miso soup. The effect will be more beneficial if you put some ginger in this soup.
14. Eating raspberries at the first hour in the morning can be of a great help, too.

Ukita Family, Japan. Hungry Planet, Nourrir son monde

Maya Ukita: Life expectancy in Japan is the highest in the world—79 for men and 85 for women. Fish: This exceptional longevity can be attributed, in part, to the consumption of fish, soy, and green tea. Mio's stomach : A number of Japanese practice Hara Hachi Bu, which consists of eating until you are only 80% full. Sayo Ukita: Regular physical activity, such as frequent bicycle riding, also promotes longevity in Japan. Cigarets: Mr. Ukita smokes four packs of cigarets a week. Smoking: Men Women Japan 40% 12% Canada 24% 18% China 60% 4% Russia 70% 28% Excess food packaging increases the amount of household waste. And yet the Ukita family buys many fresh products—such as bananas and strawberries—that are also packaged. Wakame seaweed is used in miso soup and is rich in fiber and calcium—10 times more than milk!

Breast Cancer Ribbon Template

On first account, a pharmaceutical "cure" is as unlikely as it is oxymoronic. Drugs do not cure disease anymore than bullets cure war. Breast Cancer Ribbon Template Beneath modern medicine's showy display of diagnostic contraptions, heroic "life-saving" procedures, and an armory of exotic drugs of strange origin and power, it is always the body's ability to heal itself - beneath the pomp and circumstance - that is truly responsible for medicine's apparent successes. Too often, in spite of what medicine does to "treat" or "save" the body, it is the body which against invasive chemical and surgical medical interventions, silently treats and saves itself.
