Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment - Non-Dairy Sources of Probiotics Supplements

Rheumatoid Arthritis is not inevitable, no matter the particulars of your family history or genetics. Some people have genetics that make them more susceptible, but something must still trigger the disease process. Likewise, it is usually possible, even after the rheumatoid arthritis has been triggered, to "untrigger" it by reversing its underlying causes.

One underlying causes of rheumatoid arthritis is a disruption of healthy gut bacteria. This can happen because of any number of stressors: taking antibiotics, losing a job, losing a loved one, having a loved one seriously ill or injured, divorce, your home going into foreclosure, surgery, taking a board exam, traveling in a third world country, getting some other illness, working long hours without enough rest and more. Even joyful events like the birth or a child, a job promotion or, moving to a new house can cause stress that can trigger RA.

This is because for most people stress has a strong impact on the gut. Once gut flora gets out of balance it can stay that way for years and years, until something helps it to rebalance itself.

This rebalancing of gut flora is one way to help "untrigger" rheumatoid arthritis.

One way to do this is by reintroducing healthy bacteria everyday through your diet.

Most people know about the benefits of eating live culture yogurt because of the healthy bacteria it contains. Most people don't realize the almost infinite number of other sources of probiotics. Many can be made in your own kitchen without much effort and easily incorporated into your everyday diet.

If you can eat dairy, it is easy to get probiotics through yogurt, kefir, and the many commercial probiotics supplements grown on a dairy base.

If you can't eat dairy, you may not realize how easy it is to still get enough probiotics.

Here is partial list of the many non-dairy probiotics-containing foods you can eat and drink:

Commercially available cultured coconut milk
Homemade cultured coconut milk, soymilk, rice milk or fruit juice made using kefir grains
Unpasteurized sauerkraut
Unpasteurized kim chee
Sour pickles
Other vegetable ferments, such as sour beets, sour turnips, fermented radishes, etc.
"Potato cheese" - cooked potato fermented with brine from live sauerkraut culture
Brine from ferments used as a digestive tonic and Soup Stock
Fermented chutney
Miso
Miso Pickles
Tempeh-soy
Ferments made from other beans such as pinto beans, kidney beans, navy beans, etc.
Rejuvenac-made from sprouted grain
Kombucha-a tea fermented with a special kombucha culture
Porridge-fermented overnight before cooking to increase digestibility

These probiotics-containing foods start with either an already established culture which you can buy or someone can gift you (yogurt, kefir, miso, tempeh and other bean ferments and kombutcha) or capture wild bacteria from the air (sauerkraut, kim chee, sour pickles, other vegetable ferments, brines, rejuvenac and porridge.)

Herbal Medicine in the East and West

Many people think of herbal supplements and immediately think of Chinese or other Eastern medical traditions. But herbs have been used in the western world for centuries too. John Gerard, English botanist and superintendent of the gardens of William Cecil (Queen Elizabeth I's most trusted court member), published Herball for the first time in 1597. Though this edition contained many errors, later editions were considered standard reading for generations of English students of plants and herbs.

Finding the Best Western Food in Kathmandu

So you find yourself in Kathmandu after a hard trek and you are fed up of rice and lentils, had enough of noodles or just perhaps a bit home sick. You may be craving some simple steamed vegetables or a crisp salad but you have no idea where to start looking, well I’m here to shed some light on the hidden treasures of Kathmandu’s culinary delights.
PIZZA
One doubts that there are many people in this world that travel and don’t crave pizza from time to time. At one stage you could not get a decent pizza in Nepal, nowadays there are a host of restaurants that make pretty dam good wood fired pizza’s, in fact, dare I say better than we can get at home!! But like all good things in life, there is a price. Pizza’s range from 300 to 550 rupees depending on the toppings! The best place to get pizza is Fire and Ice which somewhat of an institution in Thamel. A great place to relive the highlights of your trek with friends, while enjoying a delicious pizza and beverage of choice.
PASTA
A hearty dish of fresh handmade pasta will always satisfy any appetite. On those cold winter days, head to La Dolca Vita. Three floors of well decorated dining rooms and an alfresco style roof top terrace invites the diner in for a pasta feast. Serving sizes are generous and delicious. My personal favourite is the handmade Gnocchi del la Rossa (Gnocchi in a red wine and tomato sauce). Here the salads and pizza are also really good. Finish your meal off with a Lavatzza Italian Style Imported coffee.
STEAK
For the carnivores out there, we all crave that big juicy hunk of red meat. For those familiar with Hindu Culture, it’s against custom to eat beef, so most red meat product in Nepal is in fact Buffalo meat, slightly more textural and chewy than a good lean beef steak. Everest Steak house, found both in Thamel and Lake side Pokhara, serves up the best steak this side of New Orleans. You can order real imported beef steak, rib eye, eye fillet or sirloin, cooked to your liking and served with a side of French fries and steamed vegetables. A meal at The Everest Steak House will set you back around 600NPR including drinks and tax.
JAPANESE
Get your taste buds singing with some amazing sushi at a little restaurant called Momo Taru. Tucked away at the top end of Thamel, this gem of a restaurant is managed by professional Nepalese staff in partnership with an elderly Japanese couple. Many of the ingredients are flown in from Japan, including the seafood. The food is AMAZING and a great tasting healthy meal here is not going to break the bank either. Around 400NPR will see you with a nice plate of Maki Sushi, a Ramen noodle dish, unlimited tea, miso soup, a selection of pickles and perhaps a chilled Ashi Beer. The atmosphere is cosy with a choice of table or cushion seating and the staff are super friendly and speak English and Japanese.
A CHOCOLATE HIT
So we have all been there, after a nice meal we still feel a tad unsatisfied and out taste buds are craving that sugar hit. Kathmandu may offer some great international cuisine but it not really known for desserts. Alas, allow me to let you in on a little secret – Try the absolutely amazingly delicious sizzling chocolate brownie at Road House....did I mention it’s amazing. Add a scoop of homemade vanilla bean ice cream and you will surely be in chocoholic’s heaven!
HOME COMFORTS
Ever seen the movie Ratatouille, the scene when the critic cries as the meal gives him a memory of his mothers cooking! We all get that home sick feeling sometimes, and food can give us real comfort when we need it. Head on to Northfield Cafe, the beef stroganoff served with mashed potatoes is the dish that almost brings me to my knees crying for my mum......right down to the lashing of cream and hint of rosemary. It is the perfect dish to help me over the homesick blues. Other home comfort delights on their menu include Sheppard’s pie and everyone’s favourite bangers and mash!
So there you go, though the local food in Nepal is GREAT, we all need our home comforts from time to time. I hope this helps you to fill that hole in your stomach with something other than Dhal Bhart Tarkuri. Happy eating...

Being Overweight in Japan is Illegal

While you do not go to jail for being overweight in Japan, your company many be paying a hefty price for you being considered hefty yourself. Entry from: Florence, Italy Entry Title: "Under The Tuscan Sun: From Rome To Florence" Entry: "11.25.09/11.26.09 Under The Tuscan Sun: From Rome To Florence Murray slept really badly last night, as he was up most of the night with a terrible stomach. Today (11.25.09), we were going to check out of our hotel early, drop our luggage off at the Rome train station, and hit the forums and the Palatine right away before catching an afternoon train to Florence. Instead, we spent the morning resting in our hotel room -- then checked out at 11am and took a taxi straight to the train station. Murray said he was still up for the trip today -- but poor Murray! The train ride to Florence took less than two hours (we opted for the high-speed train), and while on the train, we saw some spectacular Tuscan countryside! Beautiful green, rolling, farmland hills -- castles or palazzos on top of these hills around every other bend -- and the bright fall sun still highlighting the autumn leaves on the trees. Murray survived the train trip, and we made it to our hotel in Florence by mid-afternoon. I tucked Murray into bed (with some Gatorade I miraculously found at a little store!) and spent the afternoon catching up on journaling and business from home (what's "home" anymore?!). We are staying at a little place ...

Unhealthy Foods That You May Think Are Healthy

1. Pasteurized Milk
Milk is touted as a healthy food, and most people assume that it does a body good. But pasteurization destroys active enzymes and denatures the fragile proteins in milk. It also kills beneficial bacteria and lowers the vitamin content of your milk.
A better alternative?
Raw milk is milk that hasn't been pasteurized. Why raw milk?
Supporters of raw milk say the pasteurization process kills most, if not all, micromilk organisms, including the beneficial ones that aid in digestion and metabolization. They also promote good health by crowding out bad bacteria and help prevent yeast overgrowth in the intestinal tract.
The Campaign for real milk says that raw milk comes from cows that are properly fed. Cows that eat green grass provide milk with nutrients like vitamins A and D. They argue that pasteurization enables the milk industry to raise cows in less-expensive, less-healthy conditions.
They also say that pasteurization destroys enzymes and diminishes vitamin content. Pasteurization, says the group, is associated with allergies, increased tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer. Many calves fed pasteurized milk die before maturity.
Raw milk will sour naturally due to the bacterial production of lactic acid and still be healthy, while pasteurized milk, which lacks the essential bacteria, will putrefy.
2. Fruit Juice and Sodas
Fruit juice may be delicious, but it's often loaded with even more high-fructose corn syrup than actual juice! High fructose corn syrup has been linked to increased cholesterol levels, blood clots, and impaired immunity. Sodas are no better as we all are well aware.
Fructose reduces the affinity of insulin for its receptor, which is the hallmark of type-2 diabetes. This is the first step for glucose to enter a cell and be metabolized. As a result, the body needs to pump out more insulin to handle the same amount of glucose.
The annual 'Liver Meeting' of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases which took place October in Boston reported results linking high intake of sugar (specifically fructose) to liver disease.
"The research team concluded that consumption of high fructose can have negative effects on liver through overfeeding, as well as damage the liver by inducing increased oxidative stress.
A better alternative? Delicious, healthy and convenient Dong Quai and Coco-Biotic, both of which you are strongly urged to learn more about and try today!

3. Whole Grains
Many foods from bread to breakfast cereals advertise that they are now made with whole grains. Despite earlier reports discounting fiber's role in colorectal cancer prevention, two recent studies say fiber from fruits, vegetables, and grains may indeed slice the odds of getting the disease. One study, surveying more than half a million people, found a 25 to 40 percent risk reduction from 30 grams of fiber daily (five to seven servings of fruits and vegetables). Fiber in food may be the key, since those earlier studies focused on fiber supplements.
If you have digestive problems or suffer some of the classic autoimmune reactions (e.g. allergies) consider the possibilities that grains may be problematical. Look at your family members and your family history for clues about dietary problems. Adjust the ratio of cereal grains to meat, vegetables, and fruits and see if the adjustment has physiological and psychological effects. In my opinion one should supplement with vitamins, minerals, protein, and free fatty acids. Above all, eat a varied diet and not too much of one thing.
Conventional whole grains lack vitamins and minerals, can be difficult to digest, and often cause allergenic responses, contributing to autoimmune disorders like Celiac disease.
A better alternative? Grain-like seeds millet, quinoa, buckwheat, and amaranth are gluten free, do not feed candida act as prebiotics, have a calming effect and are full of vitamins and minerals.

4. Cereal
Cold cereal seems like a convenient and healthy meal, but combined with pasteurized milk, it can be a bowl full of nutritionally damaging food. Cereal itself undergoes a process called extrusion that denatures its proteins (making them toxic) and destroys the grains' naturally occurring fatty acids. The result is a nutritionally void carrier for sugar and sodium.
For more on cereal and healthy alternatives, read: The Four Major Health Risks of Conventional Grains and the Healthy Weight-Optimizing Grains to Choose Instead.
A better alternative? Make your morning meal green! Try Vitality SuperGreen or a Good Morning Greens Smoothie to start your day off right.

5. Processed Cheese
Processed cheeses, especially individually wrapped slices, have little nutritional value. They are pasteurized and often have fillers and preservatives.
A better alternative? Make Young Coconut Kefir cheese or on stage two of the Body Ecology diet, once your gut is populated with dairy-loving microflora, try cheeses made from fermented raw milk to flavor your salads.

6. Protein Bars
Protein bars now compete with candy bars in convenience stores and grocery aisles, butproteine these quick snacks are not necessarily healthy. Many protein bars use soy protein and count sugars in their top 3 ingredients! Instead of offering you a healthy option, they actually contribute to fungal infections.
A better alternative? Soaked almonds and other nuts are easy and delicious snacks for those on the go! Or try RenewPro for an energizing, gut-healing source of protein. You can mix it in water or even eat a scoop between meals. You'll love the delicious taste of this truly healthy source of protein.
7. Energy Drinks
Their labels say they contain various herbs, minerals and the amino acid taurine, specially designed to boost your energy by the time you reach the bottom of the can. But if you look at the ingredients, you'll find that the main ingredients in most energy drinks are actually caffeine and sugar  making them hardly more than high-priced soft drinks.
Yet their glitzy designs and claims to improve your performance, concentration and reaction speeds seem to be working. In 2004, energy drinks overtook bottled water as the fastest-growing category in the beverage business. Similar products have even been introduced for kids as young as 4 years old. A better alternative? Drink healthier fluids like water or tea, and if you must have a jolt of energy, a good old-fashioned cup of black coffee will at least spare you the sugar.

8. Fast-Food Salads
Yes, you went to that fast-food joint near your office for lunch, but all was not lost  you ordered a salad! Most fast-food chains have jumped on the health bandwagon and are nowsalates offering salads, wraps and other healthy menu choices for just such nutrition-minded customers.
And while some won't come right out and say they're healthy (McDonald's, for instance, no longer uses the word because our consumer research shows people don't understand it and it's actually a turn off when it comes to food items.), it is certainly implied in their ads featuring fit, active people and catchy nutrition slogans.
But all salad is not inherently healthy.
In fact, most of the salad ingredients that most fast food chains use make most of them no more healthful than a burger without the bun, dipped in salad dressing, said the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), which conducted a nutrition analysis of 34 fast food salads.
One of their more startling findings: McDonald's Crispy Bacon Ranch Salad has more fat and calories and just as much cholesterol as a Big Mac.
Culprits that make good salads go bad are fried meats, additions like croutons and crispy noodles, bacon, and high-fat salad dressings. Many even have added sugar.
A better alternative? Create your own fresh salad using lots of veggies, some lean protein (egg, chicken), a few nuts or seeds or a small amount of cheese, and a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing.

9. Soy products
Soy products, including soy milk and soy protein have been linked to digestive distress, immune system breakdown, PMS, endometriosis, reproductive problems for men and women, allergies, ADD, higher risk of heart disease and cancer, malnutrition and loss of libido.1
Soy milk has some negative aspects which are as follows :
-It contains a lot of phytic acid
-It contains hemagglutinin which causes the red blood cells to clump together. However, it is believed to be harmless unless soy milk is taken intravenously
-The genetic modification involved in the process of preparing soy milk may cause lysinoalanine or even nitrosamines
-It contains aluminum
-It contains trypsin inhibitors
A better alternative? Fermented soy products like miso soup, natto and tempeh.

10. Oatmeal
For many people who suffer wheat and gluten allergy or intolerance, oatmeal also becomes and unsafe option. While oats themselves do not contain gluten, they do contain a protein which is relatively similar and current farming techniques create concerns as well. It is not uncommon for a farmer to rotate his oat crops with his wheat, rye or barley crops from year to year, and millers often encounter kernels from volunteer wheat when processing the oats.
Oatmeal seems harmless enough and doesn't actually contain gluten. But oatmeal can be unsafe if you have a wheat or gluten sensitivity2 because farmers often grow oats in fields that previously had grains like barley and wheat. The other grains can contaminate the oats and could be dangerous for anyone with gluten sensitivity.
A better alternative? For a warm, convenient morning meal, try Body Ecology's Hot Breakfast Porridge recipe.

Nobu: Toro! Toro! Toro!

October 31, 1994

In toro-loving circles, the landfall in Manhattan of Nobu Matsuhisa was hailed as if it were the Second Coming if not the First. The chef's taste and bravado, honed on a path from Japan to Alaska to Peru and Argentina, had lured the crème de la crème as well as the skim milk of Hollywood to his cramped temple of vinyl on La Cienega Boulevard. Now, in league with TriBeCa ward boss Robert De Niro and his restaurant right-hand Drew Nieporent, Matsuhisa realized it made no sense to clone a dump – not in the gracious old bank the partners had leased to house Nobu.

Still, no one could have guessed that out of designer David Rockwell's fertile noggin would come sheer enchantment: the cobalt-blue horizon of the smoking room, set behind blue velvet and winter twigs; the copper leaf and off angles of the ceiling; the real birches with ersatz branches; the curving wall of black river stones ("like a slab of beluga," rhapsodized the Voice), and the usual Rockwell wit (thirties fans and fish on chenille, cherry blossoms painted on the beechwood floor, tall stools with chopstick legs, the service bar in a bank vault). Just when we're ready not to be amused again by the irrepressible Rockwell, he tosses off his best design yet.

Worshipfully, a fan asks Nobu, "Please explain the Japanese symbolism in those odd panels on the wall." Nobu shrugs. "I don't know," he says, "ask David."

Rockwell: "Symbolism? What symbolism?" he says. "They're not Japanese. I just wanted something to insulate sound." So much for Zen and the art of noise-muffling.

Nobu or not Nobu. Opinions are fierce. Brilliant, says one. A disaster, reports another. He loved it. She hated it. The crowd is in full surge. With no World Series going, the new sport in town is table-nabbing. I call Nieporent requesting a spot for out-of-town friends, not me. Can't fool Drew. "What a waiting list tonight," he says. "Madonna and a party of six want 8:30. Calvin and six, 8:30. Martha Stewart and six, 8:30. Peter Guber, six… Jean-Claude Van Damme. And guess who I'm calling back first." He wants it to sound like a complaint, but clearly, he's in Heaven. Mere mortals will go on hold for a while. Is this a revival of sushi chic?

No wonder the crowd looks smug that first night, heads swiveling to see the faces that will confirm their own belonging. There are ritual martial cries from the crowded covey of chefs chopping and slashing behind the sushi counter. Our waiter, an import from La Cienega, has not lost his Hollywood. "Irasshai," he barks in traditional welcome to each new arrival. Alas, he can't get our order straight, urging us to begin with cold dishes, then bringing hot and forgetting half. Toro tartare with caviar in a small frosted-glass dish on a doily is worth the $25, I suppose; the voluptuous tuna belly is a sensory explosion.

"In my 25 years in business, this is my first doily," says Nieporent.

And we are enchanted by the special crisp fried sea eel with a spicy garlic sauce and the New Zealand mussels in a powerful potion. But the rock shrimp glisten with grease, the sushi rolls are rather ordinary, and the famous "squid pasta" (squid cut like fettuccine, with asparagus, garlic, and butter) is merely a pleasant joke without a punchline. "Is this Cheez Whiz?" my chums want to know, rejecting the crab in too much spicy mayonnaise. And they won't even taste the luscious black cod in miso.

Not even the Gilligan's Island charm of pouring cold sake from a hollowed-out bamboo carafe, not even a slight tipsiness, helps. "If we're still hungry, I'll buy everyone a pizza for dessert," I promise. But they are already applying compresses of dessert to bruised expectations, loving the ginger crème brûlée and the orange tart with bitter-chocolate sorbet and a leathery chocolate crust but dismissing red-bean spring roll -- "it looks like larva." I try to convince them it has whimsy, with its spidery sweet-noodle web, but I can see what they mean. And the green-tea crème caramel does look and taste like mousse of liver.

I don't even want to tell my friends how terrible it was. They are all crying, "brilliant," "sheer genius," "astounding." My mistake was to order à la carte at the table, they tell me. The secret is to sit at the bar (no reservations necessary) and order the daily omakase tasting (the chef decides; $60 and up, depending). How long may one have to wait? Somehow I doubt that Sony Music CEO Mickey Schulhof gets shuffled off to the Tribeca Grill like the minor-league sushi-bar standees. Now it's our turn. A couple still delirious from their first immersion in omakase join me – we order two dinners for three ($203, tax included) – thrifty, considering, and filling but aesthetically perilous. It's not easy to divide one slender burdock or one gingko nut.

And the seduction begins. An attack on all the sense, from the smart lacquer fan tray and sea-foam-opalescent bowl that excite the eye to the oddly wonderful gelatinous broth of the seafood with baby bok choy and the melting sweetness of swiftly seared tuna belly tattooed with tiny circles of fiery jalapeño that play on the tongue. Hard to imagine three grown-ups so fixated on two small serrated curls of fluke – "It looks like skate reduced on the copy machine," one friend observes, exclaiming over the citric intensity of yuzu. That's how obsessed foodies do carry on. Even the tempura that disappointed with its vapid predictability at the table seems splendid now in a limited edition – just asparagus, broccoli, smelt, and an oyster wrapped in shiso leaf. And thinnest slices of orange with mint layered in that wondrous green bowl have exactly the acid tang that makes a perfect finale.

Time to get real. I've racked up $500 in expenses here by now and not seen a sign of the master, off tending shop in California. It may be that Matsuhisa has not yet found the feel of home in our town. Alerted to the chef's return, I let a VIP friend of the house reserve. Now Drew is off on his bi-coastal rounds. Think of the mileage building up. But with Nobu darting about, Drew may be redundant. Politicians press the flesh. Nobu presses the fish. I have the illusion he is out in the kitchen personally adjusting each leaf destined for our booth.

Two plump oysters with caviar are a classic, understated first pitch. A bowl of Matsuhisa special sauce (minced ginger and shallot with soy, mirin, and sesame oil) accompanies fillets of fast-seared tuna, and we hoard it for the rest of the evening, though no dish ever needs the gilding. The whitefish is raw and unusually crisp in a yuzu glaze with just a drop of hot-pepper sauce – "That's the chef's South American influence," says the manager, Richard Notar. He's everywhere, too, calling the plays, explaining. A dab of that spicy mayonnaise does magic to mere halibut. Our host doffs his Matsuhisa baseball cap and calls for bread to dab up the sauce. "If the man uses mayonnaise, can bread be far behind?" he muses. "You could get them to send some from Tribeca Grill," I suggest. The waiters have been shuttling in all evening from the Grill and from Nieporent's Montrachet, just a few blocks north. So a bread run would not be outrageous. Fortunately, my chum lacks the nerve to insist.

Given the glow of so much attention, I may be imaging that the "new-style sashimi" is even more wonderful tonight – my friend is mopping up the sesame with his finger. And why not? I'm mopping, too. A small salmon steak is served barely jelled with shiitake and deep-fried spinach. A tiny tea cup of thick and exotic broth is "Nobu's answer to Chinese shark's fin soup," says Notar. After sweet eel fillets on red-tinged lettuce there is sushi, of course – yellowtail, toro again, a shiitake mushroom limp as a Dali pocket watch, and an odd vegetal thing with a hula skirt of sprouts.

Nobu stands by, grinning. "More?" he asks. Clearly he thinks we've had enough.

Quick and Easy Cooking Tips with Top 10 Seasoning Ingredients

For many cooking beginners, they find it difficult to master the taste of the good with some good sense; sometimes there too much salt and soy sauce, sometimes too little sugar, sometimes not enough flavor, and always seems like short of something in the taste.
Here is a piece of handy summarized and short list that will help you get the right seasoning for your foods, especially for those who are looking for quick and easy cooking methods, this will really help a lot.
1. Miso Paste
With the recent years of Japanese foods popularity and health consciousness, many people like to eat and cook Japanese foods. Miso paste is the most frequent used seasoning ingredients in Japanese foods making.
Basically it is very easy to get in the hypermarket these days, there are two types, the red miso and the white miso. The red miso is more salty and spicy in nature, suitable to cook in soup or go very well with fish based cooking. The white miso is more sweet based, suitable for frying and simmering dishes.
2. Kimchi
Kimchi can eat with rice or noodles directly, however it is a very good seasoning and flavoring ingredient in cooking also. There are basically two to three types of kimchi that originated from different country like Korea, Taiwan and China. Taiwan kimchi is suitable to eat with rice or just by itself, Korean kimchi is a bit salty and spicy, which is more suitable to use in frying, soup making and meat seasoning.
3. Curry Stock or Powder

Sushi California - a cruise to Vancouver's suburbs to eat acceptable sushi

Sushi California www.dineouthere.com is a Japanese restaurant at the corner of Lougheed Hwy and North Road in Coquitlam BC Canada (across from Lougheed Mall and near Denny's and Mcdonalds). In this video, I show my trip from downtown Vancouver (Yaletown) which is the home to many tiny cute dogs (such as the three shown in the video that almost trip up their owner), past Foodness convenience store on Seymour street, Vita wine shop, Cibo restaurant, The Orpheum Theatre, Kim's Snack at HMart, Toyama Sushi, and the Hudson Bay Building, and go into the Granville Skytrain station. I hop on the Eastbound train and take the connection at Commercial Drive/Broadway on to the Millennium Line which goes out through Burnaby and Coquitlam. I get off at Lougheed Mall station and it's a short walk over to the restaurant. I include shots of the menu and restaurant interior and then focus in on the yummy Japanese food including Miso Soup, Green Tea, Ebi Sunomono Salad, Tuna and Salmon sushi, Inari, Ikura, and Tamago sushi, Dragon Roll Sushi, and Avocado roll. Finally I show an exterior shot of the restaurant and parking lot, and then some shots of my night-time trip back into downtown Vancouver on the Skytrain. Once back downtown, I film some of the paper lantern festival and public art displayed on Granville Street (which is part of the celebration in Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics). The music is called "Heartbeet" and was created by Geoff Peters www.birdsinthehouse.com and Marcus ...

Now about that soup

There many types of soup, chicken noodle soup and vegetables soup can be use for health and medicine. There also soup that are just plain fatting like French onion soup (Which has a lot of cheese) The best soup you can have for yourself is homemade soup it can taste the best and you can control the idgengents in the soup. The manufacturers can soup can have tons of salt and Trans fat and THAT is very bad for your health and to lose weight. Even if there reduce salt and Trans fat soups out there it is still too much. Eating soup at fast food places or restaurants can be very fatting and these use idengents to make the person hooked, so they can keep coming back for more.

Ramen Night with Art School Dropouts!

Since most of my friends are vegetarian, finding a place to eat out with my friends can be difficult. So, I decided to invite some of my good friends over for good eats! And all vegetarian dishes! Appetizer: Tamagoyaki - I made some rolls with just fried eggs and veggies. Mama Min-styled Vegetarian Eggrolls and Dumplings - a Min style technique of packing oatmeal, carrots, and various vegetables to make the faux-meat for dishes! Ramen dishes: Miso soup and scallion stock - This uniquely Japanese ramen, which was developed in Hokkaidō, features a broth that combines copious amounts of miso and is blended with oily chicken or fish broth - but since I was making things vegetarian, I opted to have more crushed garlic, black pepper, and a whole lot of scallions. Spinach stock soup - This shōyu style soup ramen has a brown and clear color broth, based on the spinach stock with plenty of soy sauce added resulting in a soup that's tangy, salty, and savory yet still fairly light on the palate. Dessert: Japanese mooncakes but I didn't get to film it because....we got drunk first :( artschooldropouts.wordpress.com twitter tehfaiz

Celebrity Diets- Are They Safe?

With so much pressure on appearance, it has become very fashionable in the weight loss world especially with celebrities to dabble in extreme and dangerous weight loss diets, food and calorie restriction when taken too far can be and is fatal. There is no real short cut to weight loss; it takes willpower, a bit of effort and a lot of dedication. But these fad diets supposedly offer very quick weight loss but at what cost?
A few examples of popular celebrity diets include:
The Maple Syrup Diet (The Master Cleanse Diet)
Beyonc' Knowles famously went on the Maple Syrup diet to lose weight for a film role, she ate no food just drank a beverage that consisted of maple syrup, lemons and cayenne pepper for 10 days and lost an incredible 20 pounds in two weeks. This is highly dangerous and crash dieting in this way which more than likely tricks your body into storing fat instead of burning it so the pounds will almost certainly pile back on as quickly as they fell off.
Raw Food Diet
This involves basically eating all raw food, even meat which is very risky indeed. Although some nutrients in food are destroyed by cooking, eating entirely raw food can cause kidney, liver problems, nausea and even eye infections. Demi Moore is reported to be a fan of this diet. But some components of fruits and vegetables are actually better absorbed by the body if cooked. Though you may lose weight in this way, the health implications of following this diet are not worth it.
Cabbage Soup Diet
The Cabbage Soup Diet basically means substituting all your meals for Cabbage Soup for a week and a dramatic weight loss is promised. Sarah Michelle Gellar is said to go on this diet from time to time. Side effects of this diet are slightly embarrassing, flatulence and the need to go to the toilet more frequently. You will lose weight but it will be mainly water and the second you stop the diet, the weight will pile back on again and probably a bit extra too.
The Macrobiotic Diet
Madonna swears by this diet which means eating mostly wholegrains, raw and cooked vegetables and miso soup which sounds quite healthy, but it is extremely limiting with such a lack of iron, calcium and protein it will leave you feeling lethargic, run down and could increase your chance of suffering from anaemia.
As you can see these celebrity diets do work, you will lose weight but by restricting your body of all the important vitamins and minerals you need for your body to function properly, your body will start to believe it is starving and will not only store the fat which will result in gaining weight but the health implications can sometimes be irreversible. It is best to stick to a sensible, healthy diet.
There are some celebrities that use weight loss methods that are safe and still effective. Jennifer Lopez and Brad Pitt swear by Capsiplex.
Capsiplex is a slimming pill that uses natural Capsicum extract to boost the speed of the metabolic rate which then burns more calories and more fat. The spicy pepper suppresses appetite and provides the body with energy.
By taking one Capsiplex pill a day, you are free to eat as you usually would, no calorie restrictions, no depriving yourself and you could lose between 1-2lbs a week for a much more sensible and gradual weight loss that will stay off.

Nobu: Toro! Toro!

Maya Ukita: Life expectancy in Japan is the highest in the world—79 for men and 85 for women. Sayo Ukita: Regular physical activity, such as frequent bicycle riding, also promotes longevity in Japan. Cigarets: Mr. Ukita smokes four packs of cigarets a week. Smoking: Men Women Japan 40% 12% Canada 24% 18% China 60% 4% Russia 70% 28% Excess food packaging increases the amount of household waste. And yet the Ukita family buys many fresh products—such as bananas and strawberries—that are also packaged. World's Best Superfoods Part 5

www.superfoodhealthyliving.com www.superfoodhealthyliving.com 4. Japanese When Dr. Miller was traveling around the world doing research for her book, she found that traditional Japanese cuisine-especially the version eaten on the island of Okinawa, where people often live to 100-plus-was superhealthy. " Not only are Okinawans blessed with a diet rich in cancer-fighting fruits and vegetables, but they also prepare them in the healthiest way possible, with a light steam or a quick stir-fry," Dr. Miller explains. They also practice Hara Hachi Bu, which means "eat until you are eight parts (or 80 percent) full," she says. These simple diet rules may be why people in Japan are far less likely than Americans to get breast or colon cancer. Japanese staples that are amazing for your health include antioxidant-rich yams and green tea; cruciferous, calcium-rich veggies like bok choy; iodine-rich seaweed (good for your thyroid); omega-3-rich seafood; shiitake mushrooms (a source of iron, potassium, zinc, copper, and folate); and whole-soy foods. "The soy that's good for you is unprocessed, not made into fake meat," Dr. Miller says. Think: tofu, edamame, miso, and tempeh, a nutty tasting soybean cake made from fermented soybeans. Healthy choices the next time you visit a Japanese restaurant? Miso soup, which typically contains seaweed and tofu, or a simple veggie-and-tofu stir-fry. Danger zone: White rice can cause a spike in blood sugar, so ask for brown rice, rich in fat-burning ...

Slurping your soup in Japan

I had to stop eating for a minute and try to capture some of this SLURPLGURGLINGING... a sad, habit taken from China... how the Japanese can be so advanced in so many ways and yet still cling on to this custom of slurping their soup is beyond me. Oh well, at least they don't spit in the street like in some other cultures. I didn't catch any good slurps in this short clip... maybe that's a good thing. The people at the table next to us were making an ungodly racket with all their slurping. When in Rome, do as the Romans.... sorry... I can kneel in the seiza for hours, bathe naked at the onsen, bow repeatedly, eat with chopsticks, drive on the left side of the road, shower and bathe before bed, and all that other great stuff, but I won't slurp while eating. It's just gross to me, and incredibly disrespectful to the people who are trying to eat in peace, and I feel that way despite having lived in Europe, North America and Asia.

Exploring Macrobiotics

Many people have heard of people with cancer turning to macrobiotics to detoxify their bodies and technically, its better to detoxify before you get sick, so here’s the scoop on this unique diet.  The philosophy of macrobiotics is based on energetics–the idea of balance between Yin (soft, slow, water, cold, tranquil, gentle, and corresponding to the night) and Yang (defined as hot, fire, restless, hard, dry, excitement, and corresponding to the day) energies in our life and diet. Although the macrobiotic dietary guidelines are only one aspect of a more significant spiritual system, it’s the diet that’s drawn the most attention in the West.  The diet is based on dietary principles of simplicity and avoidance of "toxins" that come from eating dairy, meats, and oily foods.  The standard macrobiotic diet consists of:

Sushi no Fish! 3-9-11

Went out to grab sushi with Justin and Littleman. Littleman seems to like teriyaki chicken. I had a really good miso soup that they assured me that there was no fish used in the making of. Also had some tempura veggies which were really good. I went all out on playing video games tonight too. Use Effective Home Remedies to Get Rid of Nausea

Nausea is a symptom of a health condition so to treat nausea you have to discover the real cause. Nausea is generally accompanied by vomiting but there can be exceptions, too. The problem that appears when nausea is combined with vomiting is the risk of the dehydration.
Nausea can be cause by many factors as digestion problems, food poisoning, over eating, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, traveling in crowded buses or trains, food intolerance, and not only. Nausea often occurs during pregnancy.
Nausea is also a sign of different illnesses like weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, gallstones, pancreatitis, cancer, headache, fever, diabetes gastroenteritis or depression.
Fortunately this symptom can be treated through natural treatments too. For example -
1. You can consume non-carbonated syrup. Take 1-2 tablespoons of non-carbonated syrup and your stomach will be cooled down immediately.
2. Gingerroot is another remedy. Take 2 capsules and you will get an immediate relief. Ginger is recommended, too. Put a little fresh ginger root in a cup of tea.
3. Slippery elm, herbal candies and red raspberry are known as very beneficial treatments for nausea.
4. Teas prepared from licorice, chamomile or peppermint offers a great relief. It is recommended to drink 3-4 cups of tea prepared from these herbs daily. You can also chew some peppermint. For the pregnant women it is recommended the apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of honey. They can also have some glucose biscuits or some crackers in the morning. A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and one of honey are mixed in a glass of cold water. Take this mixture every night before you go to bed.
5. Mix about 30 gm of wheat germ with some milk and take it every hour and you will get rid by morning nausea.
6. Rice water is another natural remedy. 25 grams of rice are boiled in 50 grams of water. Drain the rice and drink the water.
7. A half teaspoon of ground cumin seeds is very beneficial, too. It helps you to get rid of vomiting and nausea.
8. Ginger ale, green tea, fennel seeds are well known for their beneficial effects in this case.
9. Drink lemon juice. You can add a teaspoon of honey to sweeten it. It helps you to get rid of the vomiting feeling. You can also eat lemon with a little salt or you can smell a lemon (cut the lemon to get a greater effect).
10. A banana eaten before meals is very helpful for pregnant women who suffer from nausea.
11. Natural juices made from different fruits as grapes, oranges, apples have proved to be very helpful in treating this unpleasant condition.
12. Boil some rosemary leaves in 100 ml water and add a teaspoon of honey. Let it for three minutes and then drink the mixture. Do this daily and you will avoid this unpleasant symptom.
13. Another natural treatment consists in mixing ground cucumbers, little sugar and water to obtain a concoction. You can also try to have some miso soup. The effect will be more beneficial if you put some ginger in this soup.
14. Eating raspberries at the first hour in the morning can be of a great help, too.

Ukita Family, Japan. Hungry Planet, Nourrir son monde

Maya Ukita: Life expectancy in Japan is the highest in the world—79 for men and 85 for women. Fish: This exceptional longevity can be attributed, in part, to the consumption of fish, soy, and green tea. Mio's stomach : A number of Japanese practice Hara Hachi Bu, which consists of eating until you are only 80% full. Breast Cancer Ribbon Template

On first account, a pharmaceutical "cure" is as unlikely as it is oxymoronic. Drugs do not cure disease anymore than bullets cure war. Breast Cancer Ribbon Template Beneath modern medicine's showy display of diagnostic contraptions, heroic "life-saving" procedures, and an armory of exotic drugs of strange origin and power, it is always the body's ability to heal itself - beneath the pomp and circumstance - that is truly responsible for medicine's apparent successes. Too often, in spite of what medicine does to "treat" or "save" the body, it is the body which against invasive chemical and surgical medical interventions, silently treats and saves itself.

DaAiTV_TC aid begins in Japan

5000 blankets reach After the Japanese earthquake, residents who were left with nothing now have to face up to the new challenge of the weather, as a new cold front is dropping temperatures in the disaster area to below zero, and bringing rain and even snow with it. Just in time, Tzu Chi's shipment of 500 boxes containing 5000 warm blankets, from Taiwan to Japan, has arrived at the Tzu Chi chapter, and is ready to be handed out to needy victims. Hot food for tsunami victims As we just saw, Tokyo Tzu Chi volunteers are making hot food for tsunami victims in the coastal town of Oarai. The plan is to cook two meals a day, including the Japanese favorites of curry and rice, and miso soup, to feed 300 people. Beginning Wednesday, March 16, volunteers from Tokyo are driving for two hours every day to Oarai - some 130 km away - with pre-cooked ingredients, gas and other kitchen equipment, so that only very little food preparation is required once the team reach the disaster area. We find out in the next report what work has gone into gaining access into the tsunami zone to set up the soup kitchen in the days following the quake. Winter warmers for Japan Survivors of Japan's earthquake not only have to deal with the lack of food and utilities, but also the plummeting temperature. As aid supplies are urgently needed, Taiwan's Tzu Chi sent 400 boxes of instant rice and 100 boxes of dried nuts to Japan last night. The Tzu Chi Neihu chapter grounds in Taipei, Taiwan, is also speeding ...
