Ginger is one of my favorite spices. It has a unique sweet and spicy flavor and it can also add an Asian flare to practically any dish. Not only is it delicious, but it has many health benefits as well! It is a great treatment for morning and motion sickness. It can relieve pain from inflammation and bring relief to heartburn sufferers. It can also be used for cold and prevention treatment and in Chinese medicine it is often given to women to treat the pain associated with menstrual cramps.
My favorite way to use ginger is to make a spicy ginger tea. I make it by putting a few slices of ginger, a slice of lemon, a pinch of cayenne, a spoonful of honey, and a few drops stevia liquid into a cup. Then I pour in some hot water and let sit for a few minutes. Then I strain the tea and enjoy! It will really warm you up in the winter time, which is a great time to drink ginger because of its cold prevention properties.
Another way to use ginger is to make a quick miso soup. Boil some water with a few slices of ginger, a few cloves garlic, and a piece of kombu seaweed. Reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes. Then add some miso paste to taste and some chopped green onion, cilantro, and some precooked Soba (buckwheat noodles). Voila! Easy ginger miso soup!
Another quick and easy way to use ginger is to buy a ceramic ginger grater. They are inexpensive and really easy to use! They collect the hard fibrous ginger strands and leave you with a beautiful juice you can pour into salad dressings and other recipes. I like to pour my ginger juice into some lime juice, raw sesame seed oil, and tamari to make an easy salad dressing to pour over a nice cucumber seaweed salad.
