Popular Weight Loss Supplements

When you go to a health food store or browse the internet looking for weight loss supplements, you'll be bombarded with literally hundreds of choices. This article will help you make sense of the confusion that can result from the plethora of supplement choices you're offered. So let's take a look the eight most popular weight loss supplements...

Fucoxanthin

Fucoxanthin is an antioxidant that naturally exists in edible forms of brown seaweed. These seaweeds -Wakami is one variety we know in the West - have been used by the Japanese for centuries to make 'miso soup'. Although human clinical trials of Fucoxanthin have not been undertaken as yet, animal trials have and anecdotal reports from people who have taken the supplement strongly suggest that Fucoxanthin is effective in targeting and reducing abdominal fat deposits.

Hoodia

Hoodia is a well known herbal supplement which acts as a natural appetite suppressant. Again there have not been any clinical trials of this supplement but many who've used it swear to the product's effectiveness in reducing the cravings for food and reducing appetite. However, if you decide to buy and use this supplement, be sure that you buy it from a reputable dietary supplement supplier as reports indicate that counterfeit Hoodia sales are rife.

Guarana

Guarana is another natural herbal supplement that's sourced from the Amazon rain forests. Guarana is found in extremely high levels in caffeine but in supplements of Guarana, the level is double that which is in caffeine. For this reason, it's widely believed that Guarana works by stimulating energy expenditure, or put another way, it makes you burn calories faster because of increased activity levels.

Chromium

Chromium is a naturally occurring mineral which is required by the body to metabolise protein and fat. When it's used as a supplement, Chromium is widely reported to assist people to lose weight, especially those who have diabetes or who are insulin resistant. People with diabetes or people who suffer from depression, anxiety or other psychiatric conditions should consult their doctor before commencing a supplement program containing chromium.

Ephedra and Bitter Orange

Ephedra is a natural stimulant that was known to aid weight loss however it was banned in the US because of severe adverse side effects. Bitter Orange is also a stimulant herb similar in effect to Ephedra and which has been used instead of Ephedra since the supplement was banned in 2004. As a stimulant, this herb will increase your energy expenditure and speed up your metabolism.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)

This supplement naturally occurs in milk and has been proven to assist with weight loss. Conjugated Linoleic Acid is believed to encourage decreased body fat and increased muscle growth.

Chitosan

Chitosan is another natural supplement which is sourced from 'chitin', a component of the shells of crustaceans. Chitosan has been proven to improve weight loss and works by binding to fat molecules in the intestines which then prevent the absorption of the fat.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar has long been used as a natural appetite suppressant and is now available in tablet or capsule form from dietary supplement suppliers. Apple Cider Vinegar is known to be effective in liquid form also. However there have been some reports of adverse effects associated with the use of Apple Cider Vinegar tablets so always check with your doctor before taking this supplement.

Ramen - The Wonder Noodle!

Ramen is a short typical noodle meal exceedingly popular in Japan. It is what is called more than just a quick meal. It was originated in China in 1800s and was brought to Japan. It is the staple dish of Japanese and a new cultural phenomenon. There are many ramen towns and popular ramen shops in Japan. Not to mention, Tokyo is the most famous city for most of the Ramen shops in Japan.

Ramen shops in Tokyo compete with each other for their uniqueness in noodle, soup ingredients and toppings. Japanese roam around and get their favorite type of Ramen. Most of the Ramen shops in Tokyo are of open kitchen style with counter only seats. In these types of shops, there is only one person who performs all the functions like cooking, serving and collecting money. Such a person is so enjoyable to watch for his or her rhythmical movement while cooking.

Ramen noodles come in usually flat, fat, thin, and ribbon-like sizes. They can also be straight or wrinkled with yellowish hue. They are always served in a hot broth flavored with miso or shoyo and toppings like beef, seafood, chicken, spring onions and seaweed.

This unique dish is so popular that different regions in Japan have themed their variations based on their geographic origin. Corn-butter Ramen in Sapporo and Tonkotsu Ramen in Kyushu are the two examples. There are four popular types of ramen, such as Miso Ramen, Shio Ramen, Shoyu Ramen and Tonkotsu Ramen.

In Japan, most of the Ramen shops have a vending machine. You can choose a dish from the picture menus exhibited inside the shop and buy a ticket on the machine.

Tokyo Station, one of the main points for the shinkansen to stop, is the hot spot of many people. Many people who visit here stop to eat in authentic restaurants like Ramen shops. However, the way ramen is prepared and served, these shops look simple in the streets of Tokyo, but it is the serving quality that ultimately determines their success and uniqueness.

Super Foods That Help Our Bodies Run Like Well Oiled Machines

" Eating more calories than you burn off is the prime cause of weight gain"

And that's a fact. Now I could go ahead and ramble of a load off recipes for a healthy diet but that would be too easy and a little boring. So I'll give you a list of ingredients I personally use and know about, and different tips I've come to learn and love. You can incorporate in to you meals as you seem fit.

Eating a balanced diet and regular exercise is the key to better living, period. Try some of these ingredients and see how you go.

Foods Your Body Would Love To Meet.

1. Rule no1. Rule number one really, for everything from exercising to eating healthy is, Drink plenty of water. Very Very important, water is unbelievable in what it does to our bodies, for hydration to helping you lose weight.

2. Lemon. Add lemon to you water/tea or shakes. Lemon draws out more saliva in your mouth, which helps break down foods into fats, protein, sugars etc, stimulating the body and helping burn fat.

3. Vegetables. Especially vegetables that have a high water content. They drown out calories and are full of vitamins. Wet veg can be, courgettes, peppers, cucumbers, cauliflowers, great for helping burn fat.

4. Blueberries. Great for breakfast with cereal. High in antioxidants and known to fight diabetes.

5. Nuts and Seeds. Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Pine Nuts, Pumpkin/Sunflower Seeds etc. High in vitamins and essential fats and very tasty.

6. Protein Rich Meats and Fish. I eat a lot of Fish, and also Chicken, Turkey Breast( very low in fat), Pork and the odd Steak for Iron. Mix it up daily. Chose meats low in fat and fish high in Omega-3 oils. Eggs are a great source of protein also.

7. Carrot Juice. If your going to drink any juice I recommend Carrot juice. High in antioxidants, great source for potassium, high in vitamins. Carrots are a great snack too eaten raw.

8. Low Sodium Miso. I love a bowl of Miso soup. With the seaweed, and low in sodium, it can help lower blood pressure, and very tasty too.

9. Carbohydrate rich foods. Rice, Bread, Porridge Oats, Beans, Potatoes, Breakfast Cereal, Pasta are all important for Fuel, for exercising and basically daily living. These foods would also be high in Fibre, B Vitamins and minerals.

10. Fruit. Fruit provides us with Fibre, Minerals, Vitamins and will help boost your immune system (hence strengthen your defenses from colds and flues). A big deal with me, is buy locally. Not only are you supporting your local community, the produce will also be better. Produce imported loses its nutritional value when in transport.

11. Calcium Rich Foods. Yogurt, Milk, Cheese, Dark Green Veg, Almonds and Tinned Fish are all great sources of calcium, needed to strengthen bones and your pearly white teeth.

12. Fat Burning Stars. Yes these are ingredients that are metabolism boosters such as Ginger, Mustard, Cinnamon, Cayenne Pepper.

13. Junk Food. Yes you heard me, if, by now you have or are planning a balanced diet, biscuits, chocolate, bars, cakes, sweets, pop, have very little nutritional value and are full of artery clogging saturated fats, but a piece now and again or a daily piece won't do any harm, once you don't over do it. Eat Healthy, Live Healthy

So out of the list above, you can see how easy it is to incorporate some of these items into your life and diet, with out having to resort to diet fads. It's plain and simple, look at your diet now and simply change it. Eating vegetables, fruit, nuts, lean meats and some sort of exercise and you will be on the right track to a better you.

Soy and Cancer - Does it Actually Fight Against Breast Cancer

Are there any soy and cancer dangers? We may have thought about this question before. We all know how important eating protein is to our diet and health. Many people are turning to this type of protein. Is it safe for us? In this article, I will be sharing some very important information on this protein option.

Studies have been found to show that all soy products have been repeatedly shown to reduce the risk of women developing breast cancer. Although, there are contradicting view points on this, if in fact risks are reduced.

These type of products are full of essential nutrients that are beneficial for our bodies. They are high in protein and essential fatty acids. Vitamin and mineral content is also high. It also is the only food to contain isoflavones.

The thing with isoflavones is that they are very similar to the female sexual hormone, estrogen. This is called phytoestrogen. If the level of these phytoestrogen is high they can cause breast cancer. These will prevent them from functioning with the breast cells. Therefore, cancer risks are lower. So, make sure you eat foods such like tofu and also miso soup. Also, a good idea is to start eating such foods right after developing puberty. The estrogen levels are higher at this time.

Although, women who already have cancer, will not be able to benefit from these products and may even react negatively to them. You should consume these foods in moderation.

Studies have been shown recently that any dangers were not conclusive. Also, it was revealed these food items could actually reduce the chance of women to have a recurrence of cancer. In 2,000 women studied, and consumption of these foods, reduced 60% risk of recurrences. Women who only had 10 grams of this protein per day, had reduced risk and mortality rate by 30%.

The studies show there isn't much of a risk associated with consuming soy products and from women developing breast cancer and also experiencing any form of cancer from coming back.

The majority of health care professionals say that eating a very healthy diet consisting of these products is very important. Equally important is to make sure you include fruits and vegetables, along with whole grains. You want to make sure you look for products which use non-genetically modified crops in their production. This is because the public is very much concerned with modified foods.

Where to Find Information About Good Nutrition

Whether Nutritional Therapy first evolved from the old Jewish tradition of feeding chicken soup to the sick, or giving lemons to treat scurvy, or the magic of Japanese Miso soup or Miso dressing, it is still familiar to us all in one way or another. Early Nutritional Therapists were known as naturopaths, believing food should be as near to raw as possible. Nutritional Therapy, as we now know it, evolved from naturopathy and the allergy and environmental movements (clinical ecology) of the early twentieth century. Doctors and scientists became involved in the treatment of disease primarily by nutritional means.

Nutritional Therapy requires a specialist practitioner who is well trained in biochemistry, physiology and pathology as well as natural medicines. This enables the practitioner to use their extensive knowledge in diagnostic procedures that will determine an individual's nutritional needs; what deficiencies may have occurred, and why. They will develop customized diets and supplements which will often cure illnesses such as eczema, hyperactivity, chronic fatigue and migraine, to name but a few.

So how do you know which choice to make when it comes to choosing to complementary medicine therapy? Should you take your eczema to a herbalist, acupuncturist or a nutritional therapist? Many professional associations ask their therapists to offer a preliminary consultation free of charge. A Nutritional Therapist will use this time to identify the possible presence of food allergy, vitamin or mineral deficiencies, and/or toxic overload. When they have diagnosed what is present, an individual program will be developed. A Nutritional Therapist will want to work on many other factors too. Such as genetics, emotional or geographical stress and electromagnetic fields. If the body is found to have a disease that is incurable, the Nutritional Therapist will work on making the body more able to function at a maximum, and therefore fight the illness more efficiently.

Interesting Facts About a Japanese Sushi

Sushi is one of the most popular Japanese foods. It is a complete dish with raw fish and rice as the primary ingredients. The distinctive quality of Japanese rice sticky when it is cooked makes it appropriate for sushi. Japanese sushi is said to be "vinegar rice" in most Japanese cuisine because the rice used in sushi are seasoned with sugar and vinegar.

This traditional Japanese dish often topped with other ingredients including fish, various meats, and vegetables is usually dipped in condiments like soy sauce, wasabi and pickled ginger before eating and it is eaten with chopsticks or by hand.

Health Benefits
Eating Japanese sushi could give health benefits. The two main ingredients namely raw fish and rice are great source of high protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals and importantly has low fat content. Such fat found in Japanese sushi is mostly unsaturated fat. An example is Omega-3, good for the heart.

There is no fat introduced in sushi's preparation for it is served raw. The high levels of protein in Sushi are found in fillings. These are fish, tofu, seafood, egg, and many others. The vegetables used for sushi are rich source of minerals and vitamins. And the rice and the vegetables used are sources of carbohydrates.

Health hazards
Since one chief ingredient of Japanese sushi is fish, it does not mean it is free of health hazards. Fish like tuna especially blue fin contains high levels of mercury. It poses some danger when these are consumed in significant amounts. For this reason, since January of 2008, only a number of New York City dining establishments serve tuna sushi with sufficiently high mercury content that a weekly reference dose is limited to 2 to 6 pieces. This will depend on the quantity of tuna in the sushi and the weight of the person.

Undercooked seafood and salty condiments
The Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a bacterium that grows in undercooked seafood. This can cause intestinal problem like diarrhea. Sushi also can be a mode of transmission of parasites and pathogens. So, it is important that sushi is properly prepared to avoid any problem.

Salty condiments like soy sauce are usually combined with sushi by the diner in whatever amount is desired. Such salty condiment can be dangerous to people with hypertension or renal disorders if overly taken.

Conveyor belt sushi restaurants
A well-known and inexpensive way of eating sushi is in restaurants with a conveyor belt sushi and sushi train. These unique restaurants are widely found in Japan and are becoming large in number abroad. The sushi in this restaurant is served on color coded plates. Each color denotes the cost of the sushi serving.

The sushi plates are placed on a moving strip or platform. Customers choose their desired plates as the belt or boat passes. They let the food pass if they do not like it, and the other customer could take it as it passes them. The customer's bill is tallied by counting the number of plates of each color they have taken.

This unique way of serving food is also now being adapted in Japanese restaurants in other countries. It saves a lot of space and customers are able to get their orders fast.

Minimalist Japanese style
The traditional serving of sushi is inspired by simplistic and minimalist styles. The food is usually laid in basic symmetry, in wooden and monotone plates. However, small sushi restaurants do not use plates because the food is eaten directly off from the wooden counter.

What's the Secret to Collagen Stimulation?

Do you want to know the real secret behind collagen stimulation? I'll give you a hint, it's not "collagen creams" and it's not collagen injections.

What's wrong with creams that have collagen in them? They don't work. Scientists have proven that collagen can't be rubbed onto the skin's surface and have it soak into your skin and plump up your lines and wrinkles. The particles of the collagen are simply too large to penetrate your skin.

And collagen injections? Well, they do insert collagen into your face and it does work to smooth your wrinkles and tighten your skin. But they're expensive and you have keep having them. Collagen injections last from a few months to a year and then you're back to where you started. It's one more thing to add to your crowded "to do" list plus the potential negative reactions and downtime associated with a surgical procedure.

But there's a better way. I've been researching natural ingredients to stimulate your bodies' natural increase in collagen production. You can help your body make more of its own collagen and that will smooth and tighten your skin like nothing else.

One ingredient I use daily is Nano-belle Lipo Q10, this "nano" version of the supplement CQ10 does penetrate deep into your skin. It's been clinically proven to cause collagen stimulation. It also rids your body of free radicals protecting against cancers and premature aging.

For centuries the Japanese have used Phytessence wakame, a Japanese sea kelp that acts as kind of "glue" to strengthen and bind the collagen and elastin fibers together. You may have eaten this if you've ever had miso soup. It's considered a "superfood" for it's powerful antioxidant properties. The media have called it "the Fountain of Youth" because it also inhibits an aging enzyme the body produces.

Cleopatra used honey as a moisturizer and it may have boosted her collagen production though that wouldn't have been known at the time.

The most effective honey comes from the manuka bush in New Zealand. Scientists at New Zealand's Waikato University's honey research Unit--it's true, they have such a thing-- have found Active Manuka Honey to have a high UMF or Unique Manuka Factor. This means this honey has a high level of antibacterial properties, it's not yet known why all honey doesn't share these properties.

Active Manuka Honey has been proven to increase collagen and elastin levels in the body. Plus it works as a moisturizer, clears up acne and fights cancer by clearing up free radicals.

Simple Soup Maker's Kitchen

Let's solve this mystery once and for all. Don't let those gourmets fool you. It really doesn't take a lot of fancy cookware or specialty items to make soup. In fact soup is ideal everyday fare, simple to make, and accessible to ANY budget. Have you ever heard of Stone Soup? It's a wonderful story that tells how simple soup really is. In fact soup evolved as a catch-all for leftover bits of this and that. Now you can get pretty fancy if you want to with soup - but we're going to stick to the simple stuff here - everyday fare for everyday folks.

Pots and Pans
You could get away with just one good sized soup pot (6-8 quart). Of course stainless steel is best or even cast iron will do. You want to stay away from pans containing aluminum or teflon as they've been associated with the development of Alzheimers and other brain disorders. I'd say the full extent of pots I use for soup includes a small pot (2 quart) for quick noodle soups or a roux, a medium pot 4 1/2 quart, and a large pot 6 quart - depending on who's coming to dinner, how much my ingredients will swell, and if I'm cooking for a week or a day; a skillet for sautéing (but you could do it right in the pot and keep all the yummy flavors in one place).

A crock pot is great to have for those long winter days if you have to go to work or go ski or "board the rad pow", and want to have a pot of soup when you get home. I've broken crock pots and readily picked up a new one at the thrift store! So budget shouldn't be a limiting factor here...after all, it's reuse before recycle, right?

Cutting Gear
Have you ever noticed, you can have a drawer full of knives, but you always grab that favorite one? All the years I've been food preparing and cooking (and it's been many) I still have my favorite knife that has gone with me everywhere. You need something good to cut veggies without it being too much work. It may be a paring knife for you or something bigger. Just always be very careful and use a knife you're comfortable with. I have one paring knife I like, on medium serrated, and a large that I adore (family heirloom) that I always have to watch my fingers with and pay attention, but I love how it cuts up my veggies for soup and salads.

Bottom line - use a knife you like, sharpen now and then, pay close attention when cutting!

Refrigerator - Produce
We are so lucky to have refrigeration, provides many options for keeping and enjoying a wide variety of produce. The baseline of my soups always begin with the many varieties of onions, potatoes, garlic, ginger and carrots. Some of these may not need to be refrigerated based on your climate and home temperature. See how they are stored at the market and do something similar.

Among the greens I always bring home cilantro, parsley and spinach; I love having them in something every day. Beyond these basics you can get into the fancier veggies such as mushrooms, kale, collards, squash, cabbages (several kinds), tomatoes, parsnips, turnips, beets...and more...

Pantry - Grains, Beans, Pasta, Herbs, Oil, Spices
In your pantry keep a supply of the Super Immunity herbs and spices you like best. I order mine by the pound through my local co-op - you'll have to figure out your best resources and use those. Most health food stores have a good bulk herb and spices section (fresher and better on cost/environment than small jars).

Get yourself a supply of beans and grains you like. Rice, quinoa and amaranth are some of my favorite grains to add to soup. I've found most dry beans even at the supermarket will sprout when soaked, so you can use those, or go to the natural food store and get organic (better for you and the Earth). Lentils, black beans (same benefits as red wine), and pintos are some of our favorites around here; we always soak at least 12 hours to start the sprouting process, drain the water (important), then add fresh water and cook 6-8 hrs to make a great soup, with greatly reduced digestive stress.

Keep some noodles in your pantry - rice noodles are a nice way to stay away from wheat which many people are allergic to (because there's so much of it in our culture). But find whatever you like among the smaller sized pastas, and keep them around for quick soups. Even the ramen packets without msg, can be used as a base and add fresh veggies, for healthy 'fast food'.

Olive oil and natural soy sauce will get you started on a good soup base and you can expand your seasonings from there as you learn about additional ingredients such as miso and Umeboshi plum vinegar.

Well, if you start out by stocking your kitchen as described above, you'll be well-prepared to make yourself quite a few pots of soup. Now take action, keep learning, discover what you like, and feed yourself and those you love in a way that protects their health and immunity.

5 High Protein Foods to Keep Your Hunger Under Control

Protein Bars and Shakes have flooded health clubs, health food stores and grocery stores. Dieters are turning to high protein foods for a quick weight loss solution. Does it really help, and what can you do to increase the amount of protein in your diet?

What is Protein?

Proteins are comprised of amino acids that are the building blocks of muscle and are found in skin, muscle, organs, hormones and enzymes. Proteins take longer to digest than carbohydrates and therefore keep you fuller for longer without causing drastic changes in blood sugar level. We obtain healthy amounts of proteins in our diet primarily from meats, eggs, fish, beans, nuts, legumes and dairy products.

Top 5 High Protein Foods

1. Chicken
White meat, such as chicken and turkey breast has high protein and low fat content. Chicken thighs on the other hand are dark meat that has a higher fat content. The fat content of chicken is also altered by the way it is prepared. Frying the chicken increased its fat content.

2. Fish and Seafood.
Fish and seafood is an excellent source of protein but has a higher fat content than chicken. However, the fat in fish provides essential fatty acids that are good for the body. Anchovies, sardines, salmon, herring, tuna and mackerel are all good sources of protein and omega-3 fatty acids.

3. Beef
Beef, while being a high protein food also has a fairly high fat content. Since the fat contained in beef is not good fat, individuals should chose lean cuts of beef.

4. Dairy Products
Eggs and DairyCheese, milk, yoghurt and eggs provide proteins but also contain a high amount of saturated fats that can be bad for you. Use low fat versions where available to avoid unnecessary fats in your diet.

5. Soy Protein
Soy protein is found in soy beans, tofu and miso soup. Soy protein is an excellent source of arginine and glutamine, the two amino acids essential for building muscles.

Popular High Protein Diets

The Atkins Diet and the South Beach Diet are based in high protein, low-carbohydrate combinations of foods, obtaining up to 50% of the calories from protein. It is important to remember that too much protein can place excess load on kidney, cause osteoporosis and heart disease. For this reason the American Heart Association does not recommend high protein diets.

Patients with liver or kidney disease should consult their physician before changing over to a high protein diet. Additionally, a high protein diet does not provide enough vitamins and minerals in the long run.

Are Protein Bars and Shakes Healthy?

Protein shakes and bars are meal replacement products widely available in stores. They are commonly used by individuals wanting to lose weight since they keep hunger at bay. They are a better alternative to fast foods since they are packed with proteins and keep you fuller for longer. Meal replacement bars and shakes are healthy if used as a supplement to a nutritious diet. Eating meal replacements bars and shakes in place of a nutritious meal is probably not a healthy option. When buying protein bars and shakes, look for ones that include vitamins and minerals as well. Lower quality protein bars and shakes have a high sugar content and not as much protein.

In summary, while high protein foods can help you lose weight and keep the hunger away, too much protein can prove harmful to your body. If you consume a high protein meal during the day, chose other foods during the course of the week to ensure you get a healthy balance of all the food groups.

Anti-Stress Diet - For Better Health and Avoiding Illness

Can diet affect our reaction to stress?

It can, and was proved in recent research at the University of Calgary in Canada.

It showed a high fat diet increased our negative reaction to stress in general, while a low fat diet produced the opposite reaction...that is, a the low fat diet reduced the negative consequences of stressful events.

This is something the health food proponents have been claiming forever, but some scientific evidence now is helping us understand just how correct eating can affect our entire life.

The University of Calgary Study

The study used two groups; one who ate a McDonald's breakfast (42 grams of fat) and the other who ate a low fat diet of natural cereals and low-fat milk.

The groups were subjected to stress, and measured for symptoms of suffering from the consequences of that stress. The low fat group did not suffer any symptoms while the high fat group suffered measurably.

The groups were then reversed, with the McDonald's group eating the low fat diet and the low fat group eating the high fat breakfast. The results were measured again, and like the first test, the high fat group suffered while the low fat group did not

Basis of the Low Fat Diet

There are a few guiding principles of the low fat diet. They are as follows:

o The daily consumption of food must include at least 33% of fruits and vegetables. If the vegetables are cooked, they must be lightly cooked only, such as steamed, but never boiled.

o Animal foods should not contain very much fat. Red meat can be totally avoided, and replaced with turkey and chicken (with fatty parts removed).

o The use of fats should be limited to extra virgin olive oil or similar, with as little of trans fats or hydrogenated fats allowed.

o Fried foods should be limited to oriental style stir frying, and the use of oil restricted to those listed above.

Typical Selections of Low Fat Meals

Breakfast

A natural cereal with low fat milk, fresh fruit, and natural products like honey give you good protection
against stress suffering (a natural reaction). Breakfast should limit severely animal products (including milk).

Lunch

The natural Japanese diet of raw fish and rice, Miso soup and vegetables gives you continued protection against negative stress reactions and can keep you thin (or help you to become so)

Late Day Snack

Fruit of any kind.

Dinner

The best diner would be a fresh dark green leaf salad (such as spinach or Ruccola) with tomato and other salad (raw) vegetables. A dressing of extra virgin olive oil and natural vinegar (or lemon juice) and a very limited amount of salt provides not only a healthful diner but its light so your sleep will be uninterrupted by digestive irregularities.

Follow the Guidelines

Just saying no to certain foods can bring you the anti-stress results you need. Refrain from deep fried foods (potatoes are especially fatty ), and choose the lighter fare.

Results

The results will be your protection against stress, and this has its corollaries in helping you maintain a normal blood pressure, increased efficiency of immune system, reduced or ideal weight, and positive mental outlook...that is, you will feel better and be happier.

The Benefits of Using Herbal Diet Pills for Weight Loss

The main benefits of herbal diet pills are that they act as appetite suppressants and metabolism stimulants. The result is that you will eat less and burn more calories throughout the day, both of which are recipes for successful weight reduction.

Some companies use implied advertising to make people think that herbal weight loss supplements are the magic pill to weight loss, but this can lead people to a false sense of security. If you take herbal weight loss pills to lose weight but continue to eat a diet that is high in fats and sugar and not exercise, you will not see the benefits of using herbal weight loss pills.

Weight loss can be simplified as "calories out" must be greater than "calories in". By using the correct herbal diet supplements, you can swing both sides of the equation in your favor. Let's look at a couple of the most common herbal substances that have made there way to the weight loss market.

Hoodia

Hoodia has recently increased in popularity due to its ability to suppress the appetite. African hunters use this herb to diminish hunger pangs during prolonged periods of hunting. Hoodia has recently become very popular on the internet, however there are problems with some companies providing either fake hoodia or hoodia that is less concentrated than advertised. You want to be sure you get your hoodia pills from a trusted source.

Fucoxanthin

Fucoxanthin is an antioxidant present in brown seaweed. If you've eaten miso soup, then you've had a dose or two of fucoxanthin. Preliminary studies have shown success in fucoxanthin reducing the abdominal fat of animals. Not only is abdominal fat the most common type of fat that people are trying to lose, it is also linked to dangerous diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. With further successful testing, fucoxanthin has the potential to be one the most effective and popular herbal fat loss remedies on the market.

Guarana

The seeds from the Guarana plant, which is found in the amazon rain forest, are high in caffeine content (twice as high as that of coffee) and raise your metabolism, allowing you to expend more energy and burn more calories. If you suffer from anxiety, you want to avoid taking large doses of guarana as it can stimulate the central nervous system. Otherwise, guarana can help you lose weight by increasing the "calories out" portion of the weight loss equation.

The benefits of herbal weight loss pills are that they will help you eat less and burn more calories. They are not meant as a sole means of weight loss, but they can make the difference between a successful weight reduction program and one that has little to no results.

In conjunction with consistent exercise and a healthy eating regimen, the benefits of herbal diet pills will help you lose weight safely, effectively and quickly. If you are serious about losing weight, you should consider herbal diet pills as a vital part of your weight loss program.

Knowing More About Japanese Sushi

Sushi comes from an archaic grammatical form of word which means sour. Rice and fish is being combined for a more likable meal. Most restaurants today serve sushi in different ways. Here is some additional information about one of the most popular food not only in Japan but in many countries across the globe.

Sushi Origin

Sushi did not actually originate in Japan. It was introduced into Japan from China during the 17th century. People made sushi from fermented fish. This is because there were no refrigerators back then.

The fish was consumed and the rice is discarded. Sushi is even considered as the marriage of vinegar rice with many other ingredients. Different sushi combinations had actually evolved. Sushi became the most popular food in Japan until now.

The Japanese love sushi, especially if it is served in rolled nori called Makizushi and nigirizushi (toppings laid in clumps of rice). This is also for inarizushi (stuffed with fried tofu) and chirashi-zushi (toppings scattered over a sushi rice bowl).

One should learn the basic ingredients in preparing sushi. Ingredients should be properly set in order so as to achieve the perfect art of making sushi.

Ingredients:

Sushi rice - This is a type of short grained rice mixed with vinegar, salt, sugar and sometimes sake. Short grain brown and wild rice can also be used and is usually cooled down before placing it into a type of filling.

Nori - Nori is an alga, a type of seaweed wrapper. Algae are scraped, rolled out into thin and dried into the sun just like rice paper. High quality Nori must be thick, shiny, smooth, and green, having no holes on it. The Nori standard sheet is about 18 cm by 21 cm.

Omelette (fukusazushi) -An omelet is used in forming the pouch for the fillings and rice. It may also replace the nori, for wrapping purposes.

Toppings and fillings may include fish, seafood, vegetables, red meat, tofu and eggs.

Condiments

Shoyu - This is referred to as murasaki. It is more commonly known as soy sauce.
Wasabi - This is made from the grated root of the wasabi plant. Hon wasabi (real wasabi) may reduce food poisoning because of its anti-microbial properties. However, seiyo-wasabi (imitation wasabi) is made from mustard powder and horseradish.
Gari - This is a sweet pickled ginger which aids in the digestive processes. It actually cleanses the palate.
Ocha - This is a type of green tea (ocha) in Japan.

Nutritional information

The main ingredients of sushi which is rice and fish are naturally low in fat but are high in carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals.
o Fats: Rich in Omega 3 or unsaturated fat. No fat was introduced in making sushi because it is served raw.
o Proteins: High levels of protein are found in tofu, seafood, egg and most specially fish.
o Vitamins and Minerals: Gari, nori and many other vegetables are rich in nutrients.
o Carbohydrates: Found in vegetables and mainly rice.

Risks in Health

Fish such as tuna and bluefin is found to have high levels of mercury. It can be hazardous to one's health when eaten in large quantities. A weekly dose should acquire 2 to 6 pieces depending on the person's weight as well as the amount of tuna inside the sushi. Raw seafood may result to risks of anisakiasis, causing diarrhea, parasitic infection and poisoning, especially if not prepared properly.

Etiquette

Sushi can be eaten via chopsticks or with your bare hands. This can be served with desired condiments like wasabi, soy sauce and pickled ginger.

Utensils

o Fukin: Kitchen cloth.
o Ryoribashi: Cooking chopsticks.
o Hangiri: Rice barrel.
o Hocho: Kitchen knives.
o Makisu: Bamboo rolling mat.
o Shamoji: Wooden rice paddle.
o Oshizushihako: a mold used to make oshizushi.
o Makiyakinabe: Rectangular omelet pan.

How to Enjoy Eating in Restaurants Without Giving Up on Your Diet

not as a diet, do not say every day at lunch and dinner with friends. There's really nothing bad to eat every once in a while '. In reality, this can also help you feel less restricted and less bored with everything your diet plan requires that you eat.

However, food also does not mean you have to eat to their hearts content and revelry. Only one night of indulgence in food and alcohol you can win back the unwanted inches to life,They have worked to eliminate a few weeks. What you need to go out to eat with friends and go out, it makes more sense with the selection of food. Here's a guide on what to choose when to eat meals at the restaurant of your choice.

Chinese

Many dishes are served in Chinese restaurants floating in the sauce is thick and greasy. In addition, rice meals in these places often in large bowls and can be served very delicious. So if you do not eat in Chinese restaurants mayYou should try to stick to stir fry vegetables, fish or meat, if you're on a diet. If you are brown rice, for this request.

Italian

Mamma Mia! Italian food is delicious and rich, but they can be healthy for you. Pasta and pizza may be a good choice, unless they are filled with cheese, meat and cream white. To avoid an oversupply of food to share a meal with friends. But if you prefer not to share your order, would be to choose the best grilldishes, such as chicken, shrimp and fish. Minestrone soup and some vegetable antipasto are also sensible choices. But please don't be tempted to order calzones, manicotti, deep fried foods, and eggplant parmigiana because they are really not friendly with any diet program.

Fast Food

Who said you cannot eat in fast food joints when you are dieting? Many fast food restaurants are now aware that a huge portion of their customers are diet conscious, so they have come up with food fares that are low in calories and fat. You can order salads, just make sure that the sauce or dressing is separated so you have some control on how much you want to use. Also grilled lean chicken and burger are also sensible choices. However, beware of deep fried chicken or fish sandwiches because they are definitely high in calories.

Japanese

Many dieters think that ordering sushi is actually the right thing to do when in a Japanese restaurant. Although there are types of sushi that are made from vegetables and seafood, you have to understand that some are filled with very rich slivers of raw food as well. These small round treats may actually be packed in calories, so be careful not to order a lot.

Sensible food choices in Japanese restaurants are sashimi, miso soup, and dishes cooked in griddles, such as teppanyaki. Although you might think that teriyaki is a good choice, you have to realize that its sauce might be high in sugar.

Mexican

If you love burritos or enchiladas, go ahead and order them. Just be sure that they are not filled with cheese. Other good-for-the-waist choices include fajitas and other grilled dishes. Much like in other types of restaurants, you may want to get away from deep fried foods or those that contain creamy or thick sauces. Thus, ordering chili con carne or fried chichimangas, or a platter of nachos or tortillas is a big no-no.

Afraid of Anthrax? Strengthen Your Immune System

Anthrax. Smallpox. Plague. Diseases that can kill. Diseases that are now in the hands of terrorists. What if these diseases were released in your hometown, or the place where you work? What could you do if vaccines and treatments were in short supply or unavailable? Is there anything you can do now to prepare yourself and improve your chances of survival?

Herbalist Susun Weed recognizes the possibility of biological warfare and she is ready to cope with it. With her help, you too can be prepared with herbs and home remedies that you can use now to help avoid infection and to build a strong immune system. You can feel safer in these troubling times by learning about herbs that are effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and that can be used in conjunction with, or in place of (should there be a lack of) modern antibiotics.

Anthrax bacteria (Bacillus anthracis) enter the body through breaks in the skin or through the nose and lungs. Early symptoms (which may take up to a week to occur) include reddish-black sores on the skin or in the lymph nodes around the lungs. Hemorrhagic fever and death follows. Treated early, anthrax succumbs to antibiotics and most people (75-80 percent) recover completely. Even without treatment, according to some sources, more than half of those infected survive. (Genetically-engineered varieties may kill up to 90 percent of untreated victims.) The inhaled variety is more lethal because the early symptoms of infection are easily ignored, delaying treatment past the point of most effect, and because pneumonia infections frequently complicate the recovery. Anthrax is not contagious; that is, it is not passed from person to person.

The antibiotic Cipro is one of the treatments approved by the US government for those definitely exposed to anthrax, but neither it nor any other antibiotic can prevent infection. It is dangerous to take antibiotics "just in case" for then they may not work when actually needed. Instead, try these home remedies.

Salt is lethal to bacteria. The simplest home remedy for those worried about exposure to anthrax is to rinse your nose with salt (any kind will do) mixed into water. Taste your mixture to be certain it is very salty. Getting this up your nose can be accomplished by putting your nose into the salt solution and snorting it in, or you may wish to buy a "neti pot," a device from India used to rinse the nasal passages. Afterwards, blow your nose and spit out any residue that runs into the mouth.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) has been scientifically shown to kill all gram positive and gram negative bacteria. A small spray bottle of the tincture of the flowering tops can be used to spray the inside of the nose, killing any bacteria lurking there. Spraying tincture in your nose does sting a little and makes the eyes water, but don't dilute it - the alcohol is antibacterial too.

Garlic has been used to prevent infection for thousands of years; and it still works! No need to upset your stomach (and loved ones) by eating it raw; cooked garlic retains its antibacterial powers, so long as you eat enough of it. During plague times, healers in some areas wore a "bird's beak:" a stiff cone was made of paper or bark, stuffed with garlic and spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg), and tied on over the nose to help prevent contagion. That's a little cumbersome for modern times, but inhaling the aroma of a cup of spicy tea (there are many blends available, or make your own) could help forestall anthrax.

Medicinal mushrooms are not only immune system tonics, they possess antibacterial properties which make them ideal for preventing anthrax infection, according to expert Paul Stametes. A tincture or strong infusion of any shelf fungus with pores can be used, he says. If you prefer to buy your mushrooms, rather than hunt for them, look for reishii (Ganoderma lucidum) or shiitake (Lentinus edodes). Both are adaptogenic, revitalizing, regenerative, and able to directly suppress infection. Side effects, even from large doses, are rare.

Essential oils are antibacterial, and some sources suggest rubbing them inside the nose or spraying the air with these extremely concentrated oils to counter anthrax infections. I don't. Essential oils are likely to cause a variety of side effects (such as damage to the mucus surfaces of the nose and lungs, and stress to the lymphatic system) that could, paradoxically, make infection more likely and more virulent.

Cayenne and golden seal are antibacterial, but too strong to be used as preventatives. Snuffing hot pepper up your nose would kill anthrax, but at the risk of irritating your nose and respiratory passages, damaging their protective mucus surfaces, and stressing your immune system. I rarely use golden seal, not only because it can cause severe side effects, but also because it is approaching extinction in the wild.

I prefer safer antibacterial herbs such as Echinacea, usnea, or poke root, which not only kill infection, but also help us keep our immune systems strong. That, of course, is the desired result from immunization: to strengthen the immune system and alert it to the possibility of anthrax infection. Anthrax vaccines currently available for animals are not suitable for humans, and one prepared for people is in short supply (and only 93 percent effective). To achieve full immunity, one must have immunization shots every two weeks for six weeks, then again at 6, 12, and 18 months. Given that, herbs seem a superb alternative: they have an extensive history of countering resistant bacteria and strengthening the body's natural defenses.

Echinacea root is the all American immune system strengthener. It triggers production of white blood cells, interferon, leukocytes, T cells, and B lymphocytes, as well as directly inhibiting the growth of most bacteria and viruses. Peter Holmes, author of Energetics of Western Herbs, cites it as being effective against anthrax. Echinacea tincture is my first choice for countering infection. (Capsules and pills of Echinacea, if used for lengthy periods, may be counter-productive.) A dose of the tincture is one drop for every pound of body weight. I take this several times a week as a preventative, several times daily when there is active infection. If I were exposed to anthrax, I would take a dose every hour for at least ten days.

Usnea, a common lichen, is especially rich in a powerful antibacterial bitter called usnic acid (also usinic acid). I use the tincture ofUsnea barbataI (a dose is 1-2 dropperfuls), but other lichens show similar immune-enhancing and tonifying properties. There are no side effects reported from use of even large amounts of usnea tincture.

Poke root tincture (Phytolacca americana) kicks the immune system into gear incredibly fast. I've seen chronic infection of many years' standing resolve after only one dose, and acute infection subside in a matter of hours. Poke's effect seems to be focused on the lymphatic and glandular tissues of the throat and chest, making it the perfect counter to inhaled anthrax, which attacks the lymph nodes around the lungs. Poke is a specific against pneumonia and a protector of the lungs. It contains an antibacterial alkaloid and a special antiviral protein. It magnifies the effects of Echinacea and they work wonderfully well together.

Poke root is powerful medicine - in fact a potential poison - and the dose is very small. One drop of poke tincture may be taken daily for no more than three months as a counter to possible infection. Those with a positive diagnosis could use a single drop as frequently as six times a day. Alkaloids in poke root tincture can accumulate in the kidneys, making extended use risky, though some people have taken doses of 15 drops a day for a year or more without apparent harm. Caution: You can feel spacey and out of your body when taking poke, especially at higher doses. The first few times, take it after dinner and stay home so you can judge your reaction.

To be assured of a supply of poke tincture, you may need to make it yourself, as it is rarely found for sale. Poke is a common garden and roadside weed of northeastern North America, tall (5-7 feet) with conspicuous dark purple berries and magenta-hued stalks.

Dig roots after hard frost, when tops are dead and yellowed, and tincture, fresh, for six weeks in 100 proof vodka.

Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus) is widely considered the single most effective immune tonic and adaptogen in the herbal realm. Safe and inexpensive, it helps the immune system respond quickly to infection and mitigates the effects of stress. Astragalus root is also an excellent ally for building powerful immunity. Both, or either, may be taken daily for extended periods with no ill effects. I throw several pieces of these roots in every pot of soup I cook. Tincture is less effective as a tonic; and I avoid capsules completely.

Ginseng root (Panax quinquefolius or Panax ginseng) is another exceptional ally for the immune system, especially when there is physical or emotional stress. In any form (tincture, tea, extract) it nourishes production of interferon, phagocytes, antibodies, and killer T-cells. So long as you need ginseng, there's no overdose; if you take it when you don't need it however, it may produce an unpleasant, jittery, speedy sensation.

But herbs alone are not enough. What we think, and what we consume, are also important parts of building strong immunity. Candace Pert, visiting professor of neuroscience at Rutgers University, has proven that every cell of the body participates in the immune system through an integrated network of chemical, electrical, and hormonal signals. The immune system is a network, she says, which resonates with the vibrations that surround it. It is as affected by emotions as by bacteria, as impacted by thoughts as by drugs.

Long-standing low-level depression, smoldering anger that is never expressed, bitterness and vengeance projected into the future are all known to depress immune functioning. Prayer, affirmations, positive thinking - no matter what you call it - talking lovingly to yourself builds powerful immunity. One of the fiercest old women I know, healer Margo Geiger, taught me to not only think good thoughts but also to unthink immune system stressing phrases like: "This is killing me," or "I'm dying to ..." ("Let's live for it!" she'd say.)

Specialized cells which eliminate bacterial and viral infections are made as needed by the immune system. Richly supply your immune system with nutrients, and it easily counters infection, building healthy white blood cells to kill anthrax and other germs. Starve your immune system and it will falter, leaving your lymph nodes and other tissues open to infection and destruction.

My favorite foods for nourishing the immune system include beets, carrots, garlic, medicinal mushrooms, seaweeds, and dark leafy greens (including nettle infusion). For rapid results, try miso soup with seaweed and wild mushrooms. Try Immune A Go Go Soup from my book Breast Cancer? Breast Health!

Carotenes strengthen and activate all parts of the immune system, especially the thymus (the "master gland of immunity"). A half-cup of dandelion greens, two cups of nettle infusion, a small baked sweet potato, or two large cooked carrots or beets is a "dose"; but ten times that much can be consumed safely. Repeated doses provide a cumulative effect starting about a week after you begin.

Selenium is a trace mineral with special abilities for building a healthy immune system. Best sources are organic garlic, medicinal mushrooms, and astragalus.

Zinc helps build energetic white blood cells (which eliminate bacterial infections). Best sources are Echinacea, nettles, and seaweed.

The B vitamin complex, especially B6 (pyridoxine), is critical to immune system health. Best sources are potato skins, broccoli, prunes, and lentils.

Virtually all drugs depress the immune system. This includes caffeine and nicotine, alcohol, prescribed drugs, "recreational" drugs, and vitamin/mineral supplements. For a healthy immune system, eat nourishing food and forgo the pills.

Both light and dark are necessary for a strong immune system. For optimum immune system strength, sleep in a totally dark room at night, and spend at least 15 minutes a day outside without glasses or contacts. Full spectrum sunlight is needed to trigger the production of important immune system components.

Exercise is an excellent way to tonify the immune system. A number of clinical trials have shown regular exercise to be strongly linked to heightened immunity. The emphasis is on regular. It is better to walk one mile four times a week for a month than to jog 16 miles once a month.

In Summary: Strengthen your immune system with a good diet, adequate sleep, regular physical activity, emotional well-being, and a few of the recommended herbal allies of your choice. Always remember to use herbs and herbal preparations simply and safely. Avoid immune compromising substances such as coffee, tobacco and medications. With a strengthened immune system you will not only enjoy better health, but you will be less likely to be susceptible to infection and possible death from bacterial and/or viral invasions. Faith in your body's ability to protect itself will continue to bolster and reinforce the immune system as your mental well-being improves. Enjoy the upward spiral of health as you follow the path of the Wise Woman Way.

Top 15 Food You Will Enjoy That Aid Your Digestion

Even if you eat healthy food, it can be hard to digest if you make it unwelcome. If you're rushed or stressed or preoccupied you can ruin even the most wonderful meal because your stomach will be in knots, denied the full attention of your muscles and circulatory system. So try to make the experience of eating a pleasurable and relaxed one, uncompromised by too many distractions. You need to indulge in your food.

Food That Aid Digestion

Apples

High in pectin, a soluble fiber that can help your body's systems to function well.

Aloe Vera

A plant whose bitter juice, when heavily diluted, may ease all sorts of symptoms of Irritable Bowel Symptom and other digestive disorders.

Bananas

Another cheap, easily available fruit that can help soothe gastrointestinal ulcers, especially if the bananas are not overly ripe. Also high in fiber.

Celery

In raw or cooked form it's high in fiber and aids digestion.

Licorice tea

Great for treating and preventing mild constipation and very yummy.

Linseed tea

Using linseed or flaxseeds in a tea is great for healing the bowel if you suffer from Irritable Bowel Symptom.

Grapefruit

Like Apples, very high in pectin, especially in the white parts that people often don't eat. So eat them.

Figs

Seriously high in fiber.

Prunes

These are actually dried plums, and in their whole or juice form have a profoundly laxative effect. Great for those with constipation.

Miso

Like other cultured foods, it stimulates the growth of friendly intestinal flora. And miso soup is so good for the soul!

Pumpkin

Very high in fiber. It's sweet, therefore more kid-friendly than some other high-fiber vegetables.

Pears

Believe it or not, the fruit with the highest level of fiber.

Seaweed

Ocean vegetables such as agar, nori, and kelp all have important minerals and trace elements that can help maintain digestive function.

Tofu

Another cultured food product that keeps friendly flora thriving.

Yogurt

Milk cultured or fermented with bacteria that can soothe the gut and balance your intestinal ecology. It's important to get plain yogurt. The flavored ones contain high levels of sugar, which can reverse the good effects of the micro flora. Just add your own fresh fruit, either whole or pureed, and it will be sweet enough.

Like raisins, prunes are rich in fiber and anthocyanidins. They're great for preventing and relieving constipation. I like to drink prune juice as often as I can.

By keeping my fiber intake up, I not only avoid getting constipated but also reduce my risk of other digestive complaints. The fact is, as we get older, our digestive systems become a lot more temperamental. One reason is that the muscles lining our digestive tracts, especially our intestines, grow weaker. Another is that our stomachs slow their production of acid, which can cause stomach pain and impair the absorption of certain nutrients. Then there's the whole issue of prescription drugs older folks are more likely to be using them, yet they're known to take a serious toll on the gut.

If you want to ward off all manner of digestive ailments, my advice is to eat plenty of fiber, drink plenty of fluids, and get plenty of exercise. More than anything else, this trio of lifestyle strategies can keep your digestive system running efficiently and trouble-free.

Farrell Seah is a webmaster at

http://www.BuyBovineColostrum.com

He created this website to educate people on the goodness and health benefits of the product called Bovine Colostrum which helps heal and protect the gut from disease. In addition, bodybuilders take colostrum as a supplement to stimulate muscle synthesis and help build muscles.

Macrobiotic Diet - How Does it Work?

The macrobiotic diet finds itself in the spotlight every now and then, as one celebrity or another announces that they are eating the "macrobiotic" way and that they feel great.

But what's it all about, really? Let's take a look at this diet that followers say is more of a lifestyle than a true diet.

First, let's get some terms out of the way. It's believed that the famous Hippocrates coined the term "macrobiotics" to describe people who were very healthy and lived long lives. The term is also found in the writings of Aristotle and Herodotus, who use the term to also describe people who had great longevity.

It's believed that many of the longer-lived cultures in the world throughout history subscribed to this way of eating - the Incas, and the people of the Chinese Han Dynasty, for example. Over time, the lifestyle and way of eating made its way to the West and although it's hardly the most popular eating plan people follow these days, it certainly has its followers.

In short, the macrobiotic diet involves eating very natural foods, not raw foods, but foods that are as near their whole state as possible. Followers eat rice, for example, but only brown rice and not white rice, which is highly processed.

In particular, those who eat a macrobiotic diet emphasize the following in their diets:

Whole grain cereals
Legumes
Fermented soy products
Fruit
Vegetables
Seaweed
Brown rice
Soba noodles
Beans
Tofu and tempeh

One of the particular important aspects of this way of eating is that foods should be eaten in the right combinations, in order to maintain the proper "yin and yang" of digestion.

In that regard, then, the following foods are not eaten, as it's believed they are considered "too yin":

Peppers
Potatoes
Tomatoes
Spinach
Beets
Avocadoes
Eggplant

This largely vegetarian way of eating also emphasizes beverages that are not stimulating, so certain decaffeinated teas are recommended along with proper quantities of water.

There's also an emphasis on how food is eaten, with followers encouraged to avoid overeating and to chew food thoroughly to aid digestion.

In particular, the following breakdowns of meals should be adhered to:

Whole grains, including brown rice, should constitute about 50-60% of the meal;
Vegetables should be about 25-30% of the meal;
Beans and legumes should comprise another 5-10% of the meal, and
Miso soup should comprise about 5%.

Other foods like nuts and seeds, fish and seafood, fruit juices and seasonings and sweeteners can be added as necessary. If meat must be consumed, it should be naturally raised or organic. The majority of food should also be produced locally when possible.

Followers of a macrobiotic way of eating believe that it can help to prevent cancer, and result in overall better health. In addition, those who eat a macrobiotic diet say they feel more energetic, happier and find it easier to manage their weight.

The ins and outs of the macrobiotic diet might seem complicated, but after reading more about it, you might find that it is really about returning to a more natural way of eating.

How to Best Treat Dry Skin Around Eyes

Do you have dry skin around eyes, mouth, or the cheeks? These areas on the face are prone to dry skin as opposed to the forehead and the nose which are usually oily.

Because dry skin around eyes is thinner, they are also more sensitive. These areas easily show lines, wrinkles, and color changes. Unfortunately, because of their proximity to the eyes, they are more noticeable by people you meet and converse with.

These days, whether you're a woman or a man, looks have become important not only for one's self confidence but also with potential business partners, clients, and team mates. I was told that if you do not give others an impression, somebody else would give yours.

Fortunately, there has been no lack in skin care products to treat dry skin around eyes. The problem may even be too many choices. No matter what course of treatment you choose, the first thing to do is to decide to have one.

The next thing to do is to adhere to a sound strategy in dealing with the issue. In my opinion, natural has always been better simply because one of nature's rules is balance. Our world would have not survived long if it is unable to balance itself.

The skin also needs balance. Moisture and oil should have to be at certain levels for the skin to be healthy, strong, and functioning well.

If you already have dry skin around eyes, you have to treat it immediately. There are certain natural ingredients that work very well and fast enough to prevent any further damage.

Wakame is an edible seaweed originally native to cold temperate coastal areas of Japan, Korea, and China. Sea farmers in these areas are the main producers and eaters as well of wakame. In Japan, it is a common ingredient in miso soup. It is interesting to note also that the people of these countries have been hailed to have very healthy skin in spite of old age.

Phytessence wakame, an extract from the seaweed wakame, is now used as an ingredient in skin care. One of its major benefits is by being able to keep the levels of hyaluronic acid (HA) up in our skin. When we are younger, we have adequate HA in our skin, which helps retain moisture. As we grow older, the levels of HA decreases and due to some other causes, we are not able to replenish it. Phytessence wakame has been shown to reverse this. With adequate moisture retention, the dry skin around eyes is treated directly but in conjunction with our body's own healing process.

Another benefit discovered from using Phytessence wakame is it has been shown to be able to help the body regrow longer and stronger collagen and elastin fibers.

If you complement this with ingredients like Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10, a special formulation of coenzyme Q10, and Cynergy TK, both of which helps the skin fight free radical damage as well as stimulate the body to repair and regrow healthier collagen, elastin, and keratin fibers, you have a formidable product that can treat dry skin around eyes as well as maintain overall skin health for the whole face and neck areas.

Now, you have the desire, strategy, and ingredients to treat your dry skin. The only thing missing is for you to act on it right away.

Vegetarian Soup Recipes That Are Quick and Easy

Once you discover how tasty and easy to prepare homemade soups are, you'll never eat canned soup again. Most canned soup is overcooked and generally seasoned with too much salt and not much else - relying mostly on bones and meat for flavor. When you get the taste of a delicious broth simmered with natural herbs and spices, and made amazingly enough without meat or bones, you won't be able to live without it. Yum Yum.

How to Cook Soup
Making a pot of soup is really as simple as filling a soup pot up with good water, throwing in some herbs, spices and roots such as onions, garlic and ginger (possibly sautéing them first), letting it simmer away on the stove as you go about your business. Making soup in a crock pot gives you the option to leave it cooking while you're away at work and come home to an amazing smell permeating the air, waiting for you to get out the bowls and spoons.

Healthy Quick Recipes are Easy to Make
You'll gradually add items based on how long they take to cook, which might include carrots and potatoes, or pre-soaked beans and rice for longer cooking times, or spinach, parsley and cilantro at the end for just a few minutes to wilt them, but not cook. At this time you might also add a little oil such as olive or coconut oil to broaden out the flavors of the soup and make nutrients from the spices more available for assimilation.

Easy Recipes Vegetarian Style
Final additions will be some special items that help create a more tasty broth such as soy sauce, miso or umeboshi vinegar. You may not have used these much, but they are readily available and can give that heartiness of taste that other meatless soups lack; often people find it surprising how really good what vegetarians eat is.

Before You Can Say, "Where's my bowl?"
Some soups rather than having to cook all day will just take 5-10 minutes, as long as it takes water to boil, with a few quick cooking noodles and some frozen or light veggies that need just a couple of minutes to be ready to serve up with the seasonings you've added. This is a great place to start when learning how to cook soup.

Voilå! Couldn't be easier...and like I said, you'll never want canned soup again!

Soy Estrogen - 5 Easy Ways to Get This Natural Estrogen Replacement

You know the many benefits of soy estrogen, you are trying to incorporate this natural estrogen replacement into your diet, and you're looking for easy ways to do it. Read on, my friends!

By eating 50-100 mg of isoflavones (the plant estrogen found in soy products) a day, you can reduce your hot flashes and night sweats, help stop your PMS symptoms, and start to have healthier skin, hair, and nails.

So, here are five easy ways to get your three daily servings of soy.

1. Soy Milk
It's time to rejoice, ladies! Getting your daily soy intake is a great excuse for drinking a lovely, cold glass of chocolate soy milk-- full of that great soy milk estrogen! If you don't like chocolate (Do people like that even exist?), then you can drink the vanilla soy milk or the unsweetened soy milk. I find that the chocolate and vanilla are great on their own, but if you are going to drink the unsweetened soy milk, you might need to give it a boost of flavor. You can do this by making a smoothie.

2. Smoothies
If you're looking for an easy breakfast or a refreshing snack, smoothies are a great idea. They are easy to make, healthful, and delicious. Get the soy in your smoothie with soy milk or soy protein powder (you can find this at health food stores). I like blending my soy milk and protein powder with frozen strawberries (It makes a great texture!) or frozen bananas. Heck, you could even go crazy and mix it with frozen strawberries AND bananas! I suggest using fresh fruit that you have frozen yourself. Those bags of frozen fruit from the grocery store taste quite fake, but if you are really in a rush, they will do the trick.

3. Edamame
It doesn't get much easier than this. Just buy these fresh soy beans at the grocery store, pop them in the microwave for a few seconds, sprinkle them with salt, and they are ready to eat. If you've never had them before, you may be wondering how to eat them. Don't eat the shell. The shell is not enjoyable to eat. You put the whole pod in your mouth and use your teeth to scrape out the two or three soy beans inside.

4. Soy Nuts
I didn't think it could get easier than the edamame, and then-- it did! Just look for roasted soy nuts at your grocery store. The instructions for eating these? Take them out of the bag and put them in your mouth.

5. Miso
This simple Japanese soup is tasty, and it has at least a serving of soy in each bowl. You can either make this at home (not so easy), or pick some up at a local Asian restaurant (easy).

Practical Guide to Having Better Sex - Foods and Techniques That Will Increase Your Sexuality

Feast on this ultimate guide to the sexiest foods, some new ways of turning each other on, the steamiest sex, and the hottest ways to a heavenly orgasm.

Plump Up Your Sexual Appetite

They say food is the way to a man's heart, but did you know that some munchies can turn him off sex, while others will make him feel like an Energizer bunny?

If you want your man red hot and ready to go, don't feed him too much red meat (animal protein has been linked to the kidneys and decreased sexual desire), dairy or ice cream just before bed. These will have a negative effect on you and your man's sex drive.

For a really steamy evening, try ginger wine. According to aromatherapists and the ancient Romans, ginger is one of the strongest aphrodisiacs around. Add some ginger root to a bottle of dry white wine; let it steep for a couple of weeks, then have a few glasses before your naughty deed.

The top foods to make both of you randy? Seaweed, shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, miso soup, wholegrain rice (complex carbohydrates which help boost sexual energy) and oysters (zinc) - all of which contain essential minerals and vitamins as well as balanced energy to help you feel more sensual and give you more stamina for love-making.

Getting In The Mood

What happens if you and hubby find it tough to unwind or are just too tired to have sex?

For him: Try a foot massage. According to shiatsu experts, briskly rubbing the soles of the feet, then gently massaging the whole foot will make his erection last longer and increase sexual vitality.

For her: Apply this age-old method passed down from ancient Chinese sex experts. Press the point between the tendons of the big toe and second toe, about two inches up from the webbing of the foot, a dozen times for 10 seconds on each foot. This point, known as the "Supreme Thrust," will give you an instant rush of sexual energy, but do it only after a foot massage - you need to feel relaxed to get the full benefit.

For a special sex boost, give acupressure a go. Light pressure, with the thumb on either side of the spine (make sure you don't put pressure on the spine itself) starting at the bottom and working upwards, will enhance sexual feelings and make you feel sexy all over. When you've finished, briskly rub your hands up and down your partner's body to make him or her feel totally turned on and ready for love.

Feeling uptight? Try meditating. All you have to do is find a quiet place to sit, then visualize all your worries floating away, or imagine them being wrapped up in big plastic bags, then dropped over a bridge.

Another great sex booster is hydrotherapy. Take a scented bath together, or make love in the shower. And if you're really adventurous, try a hot and cold shower before sex - this will boost body circulation and make your skin tingle all over, leaving you ready for sex.

Trigger Your Orgasm

If you've ever had difficulty having an orgasm because you can't stop thinking about work, the bills and the meaning of life, here are some guaranteed ways to get back on track.

According to a study on arousal, tensing your stomach, legs, arms and feet muscles during sex can trigger an orgasm. It is also recommended that during sex, your head can hang off the end of the bed. This increases blood flow to your head and changes your breathing pattern, leaving you feeling more aroused and turned on.

Or try visualization to get in the mood. Summon up mental images of past love-making sessions. What did they sound like? How did they smell? Remind yourself of past pleasures, and then bring those feelings into the present.

Really let go - scream and pant and let all that tension out, then relax into a mind-blowing climax. But make sure the neighbors are out!

A Look at Different International Soup Recipes

French onion is one example of an international soup which is popular all over the world but there are more. India is famed for its lentil soups, Japan's miso is unique and delicious and most of us are familiar with the healing properties of Jewish chicken noodle is another example.

Scotch broth, which is barley and mutton, and cullen skink, a smoked haddock soup, are renowned in Scotland. In Eastern Europe you will find borscht, a meat and beetroot soup, and goulash, which is a paprika and beef stew which used to be a soup.

The American South gives us chicken, meat, seafood and okra gumbo soups and in the Middle East a chickpea, lamb and lentil combination is the perfect snack for breaking the Ramadan fast. In Italy you will find minestrone and many other varieties of pasta and bean types and Greece is home to delicious lemon and egg soup. Spanish gazpacho is a wonderful example of a famous chilled version and Lebanese cucumber soup is just as refreshing.

How It has Evolved Through History

Soups vary from chilled to piping hot, as well as from water thin to thick and creamy. The word "soup" can be traced back to the word "suppare" which in Latin means to soak, and this refers to the way vegetables or meat is soaked in cooking liquid to make a soup. Soup used to known as "pottage" which means cooked in a pot, or "broth" which means brewed.

"Bouillon" is French for boil and a bouillon is a stock. The word chowder comes from the Breton word "chaudree" which means cauldron and chowders are rich, thick soups from the American northeast and New England areas. A chowder might have a creamy base, a tomato base or a clear broth base.

A bisque is a thick soup which is thought to come from the Bay of Biscay near Spain. Bisques used to feature game birds and poultry but now most are made with seafood such as crab or lobster.

Soups used to be basic combinations of meat, vegetables and water but international soups developed in their own way and today there are many types of soup recipes and lots of different flavors and ingredients you can add to soup to recreate famous international soup recipes like French onion soup and more.

Recipe for Greek Egg and Lemon Soup

This delicious soup is called Avoglemeno in Greek and the tangy lemon, chicken, rice and egg combine to make a wonderfully aromatic soup. For a tangier soup you can add more lemon. For a more filling soup, add more rice. This recipe serves four people.

What you will need:

2 diced boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 egg
1 1/2 cups raw instant rice
1/2 cup lemon juice
4 cups chicken broth
Salt and pepper, to taste

How to make it:

Bring the broth to a boil, then add the chicken and cook for a couple of minutes. Add the rice. Beat the lemon juice and egg and slowly stir this mixture into the soup. Cook for 5 more minutes and serve hot.
