Can Chicken Soup Really Cure a Cold?

Natural healers have known for over 2000 years that how to stop a common cold is with chicken soup.

The twelfth century Jewish philosopher and doctor Maimonides recommended chicken soup for colds in his medical text, noting that he adapted the recipe from classical Greek sources written over fifteen hundred years before his time. It became the custom of Jewish housewives in what is now Germany to "boil a chicken to death" to make a hot and healing remedy for colds.

Chicken soup became so widely recommended in Jewish tradition that it became known as Jewish penicillin and (after "Buby," or grandmother) bubymycin. Other cultures, of course, cook chicken soup with their own special variations. But it is only recently that scientists have begun to understand just how it is that chicken soup is demonstrably prophylactic against colds and other upper respiratory infections.

A research team at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha made chicken soup following the recipe of one of the researchers' grandmothers, Yda Zment. Mrs. Zment made her chicken soup by boiling a chicken for 90 minutes with onions, sweet potato, parsnips, turnips, carrots, and parsley, removing fat from the broth as it accumulates. After 90 minutes, she removed the chicken (for use in other dishes) and then put the vegetables and the broth in a food processor to make a fine puree.

The resulting "chicken soup" is then strained and drunk hot.

The Nebraska researchers took Grandma Yda's chicken soup to the lab to see whether it attracted or repelled a culture of neutrophils, the white blood cells that trigger inflammation in the nose, sinuses, and throat. As they tested varying concentrations of chicken soup and neutrophils, the found that the soup repelled the neutrophils. Chicken soup in a test tube stopped inflammation dead in its tracks.

The researchers also found that no one vegetable in the soup provided any special antioxidant that stops inflammation. Instead, it is the combination of vegetables, simmered together, that's curative. In fact, several of the vegetables by themselves can be made into extracts that are cytotoxic, that is, that kill healthy cells. The soup as a whole, however, does not.

A well-strained chicken soup is just right for relieving sore throat. Tiny particles of vegetables interfere with the neutrophils' ability to "crawl" over the lining of the throat, keeping them from causing pain.

What if you're a vegetarian? Is there a vegetarian "chicken soup"?

Well, yes, there is, but you use different vegetables. For vegetarian relief of colds and flu, try miso. This remedy is so old it even appears in an 1800-year-old Chinese medical textbook, the Shang Han Lun. It's the combination of soy and green onion that triggers a perspiration reflex that also stops pain in the throat.

Whichever remedy you use, there's one old adage that isn't true.

How to Make a Rice Salad

There are many types of rice salad. In general, rice salad has a thin dressing, rice, and vegetables combined. You may have something simple like white rice, cucumbers, and vinaigrette, or you can have something more complex with sun-dried tomatoes, walnuts, papaya and feta cheese. You can combine almost anything together in a rice salad that you want.

Wild rice is also used to make tasty salads, often combined with meat of some kind, sweet grapes, nuts and a light dressing. Rice salads can be made ahead of time, but reserve most of the dressing until just before serving so the rice does not get mushy.

This recipe is a little different. It uses sweet rice, also known as sushi rice. You can find it in Asian markets. Sushi rice is sticky when it is cooked and it has a slightly sweet flavor. The rest of the ingredients are commonly used in sushi dishes. The entire salad has a wonderful Japanese flavor. If you like sushi, this salad will be a hit. It makes a wonderful lunch or even a light dinner. Alternatively, you can use it as a side dish.

Recipe for Sushi Rice Salad

This unique twist on rice salad will be an instant hit.

What You Need

1/2 cup short grain sushi rice
3/4 cup plus 1-1/2 Tablespoons water
1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 medium carrot
1-1/4 teaspoons wasabi paste
1-1/2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 large seedless cucumber, peeled, halved, cored and chopped
3 scallions, thinly sliced on the diagonal
3 Tablespoons Japanese pickled ginger, drained, sliced and coarsely chopped
1 Tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted
1 avocado
8 fresh shiso leaves (optional)
1 (6 inch) square toasted nori, cut into thin strips with scissors
How to Make It

Rinse the rice in several changes of cold water until the water runs clear. Drain in a colander for 30 minutes.

Place rice and 1-3/4 cups of water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Cover and simmer for two minutes. Remove the rice from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 10 minutes. Do not lift the lid.

While the rice finishes, bring the vinegar, sugar, and salt just to a boil in a very small saucepan. Stir it constantly until the sugar dissolves completely. Let it cool 2 minutes.

Spread the rice in a large shallow pan. Sprinkle it with the vinegar mixture and toss it with a wooden spoon.

Using a vegetable peeler, shave thin lengths from the carrot. Cut the slices diagonally into strips 1/4 inch wide.

Whisk the wasabi, the remaining 1-1/2 tablespoons of water, and oil together in a bowl. Add the rice, carrot, cucumber, ginger, scallions, and sesame seeds. Toss gently.

Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and peel it. Cut crosswise into slices 1/4 inch thick.

Arrange 2 shiso leaves (if you are using them) on each of 4 plates. Top with the avocado and rice mixture and sprinkle with nori strips.

Serves 4.

Japanese Cooking

Do you love Japanese food? The funny thing about Japanese food is that you either love it or you hate it. There is no in-between. And chances are, if you hate it, you probably haven't really tasted Japanese food yet or haven't given yourself a chance to sample it enough. Japanese food is hard to appreciate after only one bite. And sometimes, the idea that you are tasting raw food just won't escape your mind that you are already predisposed to hating Japanese food even before you actually taste it.

Personally, I love Japanese food. There really is no other cuisine like it in the world in terms of its unique taste and presentation. Who would believe that something so raw could be so delicious? For those of you who have not yet discovered the pleasures of Japanese food, allow me to present the following primer.

The standard Japanese meal always involves a bowl of white rice as well as soup and side dishes such as pickles, vegetables, meat and fish. Japanese food is classified by the number of viands or "okazu" that are served with the rice, soup and side dishes. A meal with one okazu is called ichiju-issai and a prime example of this is the traditional Japanese breakfast which consists of miso soup, rice, grilled fish and one pickled vegetable.

The regular Japanese meal usually involves three okazu to go along with the soup, rice and pickles. Traditionally, each of these three okazu are cooked in a different way from the others. They can either be served raw or grilled, simmered, steamed or deep fried.

Another hallmark of Japanese food is seafood, which is the most popular and most widely consumed food in Japan. The most popular dishes include all types of fish as well as shellfish, squid and octopus. Crab is another favorite delicacy and so are whale and seaweed. Despite the fact that Japanese are not heavy meat eaters, you will hardly find any vegetarians among them either probably owing to their deep fashion for seafood. Beef and chicken are also popular among the Japanese.

How to Plan Romantic Getaways

We have all seen the images of couples strolling hand-in-hand along empty, sandy beaches; watching the playful flames in front of a fireplace at a mountaintop cabin, enjoying the scenery of foreign cities from a horse-drawn carriage - it is all tremendously magical, yet how many people can actually afford these elaborate escapes?

Although not everyone can afford a trip to Paris, Venice or Hawaii, romantic getaways are more in demand than ever. Couples need to spend quality time together and renew the passion they felt before responsibilities, jobs, and kids took over.

When planning romantic getaways, consider your interests as a couple, what you want to accomplish with this vacation, and how much money you can splurge on this escape. Although you may have your heart set on a Caribbean cruise, your finances may force you to shelve that dream for a while. Instead, you may have to settle for destinations closer to home.

Couples who enjoy urban landscapes, mountain air, and have a fascination for Japanese culture can fuel their passion at a Japanese mountain retreat at the foot of the magnificent Dandenong Ranges, not too far away from Melbourne. In these idyllic settings, lovers can unwind, pamper themselves, and enjoy each other's company without distractions.

Japanese-style mountain retreats offer more than luxury accommodations. While enjoying your holiday, you can sample from a variety of Japanese and Thai delicacies, such as 'Miso' soup, 'Gyoza' dumplings, 'Okonomiyaki' (savory pancakes), 'Chicken Kara Age,' marinated in soy sauce, or Korroke (potato croquettes). Scrumptious Japanese or Western-style meals can be served in your luxury suite all day long. Imagine, how magical it would be to surprise your honey with a six course banquette!

Aside from delicious meals, resort guests can also participate in a unique, yet traditional tea ceremony, which is conducted by a certified performer. Spa retreats are meant to be leisurely and luxurious, therefore, also encourage slumbering on traditional tatami mats, or finding the perfect tranquil waterside spot to watch the moon rise slowly over the retreat's eye-catching lake.

Away from the hustle of the city, it is time to truly relax. You can schedule a deep tissue massage, or enjoy your own private garden while soaking in the Ofuro (bath tub). Whatever helps you to unwind so you can dedicate your full attention to your partner, goes. Generally, the list of available spa services is quite extensive. They entail several types of soaks and massages, which are geared to relax both your body and mind. All guests will be able to chill out, even those who are worried about their delicate skin. Authentic Japanese mountain retreats will only use natural ingredients and curative essences for their spa and bathing rituals.

Romantic getaways can be planned any time of the year. You can abduct your partner for her (his) birthday; couples can celebrate their wedding anniversary in a secluded Japanese-style retreat; it can be a gift for newlyweds; consider it an amazing honeymoon destination, or it can be an unexpected surprise... a gesture to show your partner how deep and sincere your feelings truly are!

What's the Difference Between a Salt Water Flush And Herbal Laxative Teas For the Master Cleanse?

The Master Cleanse cleans your body by flushing away toxins and other poisonous materials. This powerful detox diet has helped a lot of people to rejuvenate their bodies and free themselves from the toxins that have long been polluting their bodies.

The Master Cleanse dislodges the mucus and other waste materials that are blocking the colon. It is just a matter of flushing it out of our system. This is why, there are natural laxatives used along with the Master Cleanse diet. Individuals who are practicing the Master Cleanse can either use a herbal laxative tea or salt water flush. But what is the difference between the two?

Using Herbal Laxative Tea's

Most of the herbal laxatives use the herb Senna leaf to stimulate colon contractions. Senna leaf is popularly used in countries like China, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Japan, Switzerland, and the United States as laxatives. Herbal teas are easier to deal with and easier to drink since it is pleasant tasting and soothing. When preparing the tea make sure to use distilled or filtered water. Avoid preparing it beforehand because the essence of the Senna herb will be lost once it has been dissolved in hot water.

The downside about using an herbal laxative is that it is definitely harder or more difficult to predict when the next bowel movement will happen. It can also cost more than sea salt water flush.

You'll want to avoid drinking laxative teas if you are pregnant or nursing baby. If you have a medical condition, you should consult with a doctor be safe for you to drink laxative teas. While herbal tea's are natural, there are medicinal-like properties which you should be cautious about.

The Salt Water Flush

Salt water flush also helps the digestive system to clean itself and remove the toxins out of the body. It works just like a herbal laxative, but with the salt water flush, the results will be quick. Within 30 minutes to an hour, you would start to feel some bowel movements.

Aside from being predictable, it is also easier to prepare and the ingredients can be brought easily. You'll find the ingredients in most grocery stores. It is an inexpensive way of flushing the toxins out of the body.

The problem with salt water flush sometimes is that people find it difficult to gulp down. The taste could be so horrific sometimes that people refuse to do it again. Some would recommend drinking it with a straw, while others recommend that you mix something that can be swallowed with one gulp. While drinking it, I slowly drink it as if it was a cup of Japanese Miso soup.

Both the herbal laxative and salt water flush have their own distinct pros and cons. Some people would find that salt water flush does not work for them, but finds tea very soothing. While some would discover it to be the other way around. It is just a matter of discovering the things that best suit your needs and your body.

Add water, some garlic and ginger grated juice, two tablespoons of UDO's choice and one of acidophilus. Mix and have as a refreshing drink. This is one of the simplest of the alkaline recipes and is great to have after a good work out.

The list of alkaline recipes continues with a lovely alkaline vegetable broth. Take two carrots, two celery tops, two beetroots, two cups water, three cups celery stock, one zucchini and 2 cups of peeled red potatoes. Wash thoroughly and boil and then simmer for about half an hour. The best of these recipes is ready to consume right after straining it.

The miso soup is an ideal way to have miso, which is a highly alkalizing food. Alkaline recipes are all healthy and low of fat. So having them means you kill two birds with one stone. Not only does one shed those unwanted pounds but also gain good health. Take 2 tsp of Miso and add it to some water. Bring to a boil adding iodine sea salt to taste. Staying Healthy in the Autumn According to Traditional Chinese Medicine

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we observe nature and seasonal changes to learn proper ways of staying in harmony.  When we live in harmony with the season, we are also ensuring harmony within ourselves. From the foods we eat to the amount of sleep we get, all of these are reflected from observing nature. Autumn is considered the season of the Lung organ. Using this Traditional Chinese Medicine approach, here are some tips to staying healthy through the Autumn:

Eat seasonally. The Autumn is also the time to eat warm, cooked foods. It's time to reduce the amount of salads, smoothies, iced drinks, and foods cold straight from the refrigerator. Eat a variety of seasonal foods.

Fermented foods contain beneficial bacteria to keep your immune system strong. Introduce probiotic-rich foods into your diet: including sauerkraut, kim chi, miso, kombucha, rejuvelac, fermented soda, yogurt, kefir, and other fermented foods. Although food sources are best, you can also take a probiotic supplement- choose one that contains acidophilus and bifidus.

Pears are considered very helpful for the Lungs. Pears eliminate heat and phlegm, soothe dryness, and strengthen the Lungs. They are delicious to eat through the Autumn and are very soothing for coughs and sore throats.

Make sure to drink enough fluids. Stay hydrated with water, teas, soup stocks, and fermented drinks.

Make sure to get enough sleep. Sleep is very regenerative and keeps the immune system strong.

Exercise is helpful to keep the lungs strong. For those prone to Seasonal Affective Disorder, exercise is very helpful to keep moods stable. If you exercise outdoors, please wear appropriate clothing. Avoid wearing shorts in the cold weather. Instead, keep the body protected and wear layers.

Green tea (contains caffeine) and rooibos tea (herbal, contains no caffeine) are excellent sources of antioxidants to help you stay healthy.

Wash hands regularly, but do not use conventional "antibacterial" hand soap containing triclosan. Triclosan is a pesticide that has shown to decrease healthy flora on the skin, increasing our chances of infection! Instead use gentle organic soaps. If you wish for something a little stronger, you can use organic soaps with natural antibacterial essential oils such as tea tree and lavender.

Find ways to decrease stress. Stress depletes our immune system. The following are just a few ideas, but come up with your own: exercise, a daily meditation practice, exploring your creativity with art or music, laughter, taking up a hobby, enjoying time with friends and family, and gardening. Taking time to focus on things we are "grateful for" can really help with our sense of happiness and can ease anxiety.

Full-spectrum light bulbs are helpful to people who are emotionally affected by the darker days of winter. These bulbs produce light the same spectrum of sun light.

In Chinese Medicine, we make an effort to avoid "catching a cold or wind." This translates to wearing a scarf to protect the neck from being cold and wearing appropriate clothing. It's not recommended to go outdoors with wet hair.

At the first sign of a cold or flu, rest and get extra sleep. Try not to "push through" your illness. Listen to your body's need for rest. Drink teas, sip soup broths, and eat nutritious whole foods. Decrease processed sugar, and if you have phlegm, avoid dairy products (especially unfermented dairy). Honey soothes sore throats and helps with coughs. Perhaps take a soothing hot bath. Mild exercise is okay; intense exercise will only deplete your immune system further.

Regular acupuncture treatments are helpful to keep the immune system strong. Acupuncture treatments can also be really helpful to alleviate symptoms if you do catch a cold. When working with a trained herbalist, herbs are also helpful to stay healthy, prevent and treat colds and flu.

Get These Secrets to Healthy Looking Skin and You'll Look Great

If you're looking for the secrets to healthy looking skin I'll let you in on a secret. You can attribute healthy looking skin to a healthy lifestyle and some high quality skin care ingredients.

But without the basics, no amount of cosmetics and skin care are going to have your skin looking as good as possible.

As far as the basics lifestyle choices go, it's the same things you've heard all your life. Don't smoke, don't drink to excess, get enough rest, exercise and eat right. These will all have a huge impact on the way you look and feel.

Drinking plenty of water will also help your skin to stay healthy looking because you'll be flushing out the toxins you accumulate throughout the day plus you'll be keeping your skin hydrated.

As far as those "other" secrets to healthy looking skin-such as celebrity level ingredients in skin care products-there are some. And here's what they are and why they work.

1-Phytessence wakame-This is a Japanese sea kelp that the Japanese have used for centuries to keep their skin glowing. They also eat it in miso soup and other foods. It's thought to have cancer fighting abilities. Plus, it's scientifically proven to prevent wrinkles and keep your skin smooth. The way it does this is it prevents the breakdown of certain skin cells so you're skin stays taut and wrinkle free for longer.

2-Cynergy TK -Combine this with the Phytessence wakame and watch out! You'll be well on your way to younger, healthier looking skin in just a few uses. Cynergy TK contains something called Functional Keratin which strengthens your skin cells and boosts your collagen and elastin output to keep your skin smooth and healthy looking.

3-Antioxidants-Including Vitamins C and E in your skincare and in your diet through lots of fruits and vegetables will help your skin to glow. They'll keep your skin hydrated naturally and will reverse the signs of aging by destroying free radicals in your environment. Phytessence wakame is a powerful antioxidant. So is a special type of honey called Active Manuka Honey.

As you can see, your lifestyle (and obviously your genes) will go a long way toward keeping your skin healthy looking. But, there are a few ingredients worthy of the secrets to healthy looking skin.

If you'd like to learn more about these ingredients for healthy skin, please visit my website where I share about the products I personally recommend.

How to Use Ginger To Easily Reap the Health Benefits!

Ginger is one of my favorite spices. It has a unique sweet and spicy flavor and it can also add an Asian flare to practically any dish. Not only is it delicious, but it has many health benefits as well! It is a great treatment for morning and motion sickness. It can relieve pain from inflammation and bring relief to heartburn sufferers. It can also be used for cold and prevention treatment and in Chinese medicine it is often given to women to treat the pain associated with menstrual cramps.

My favorite way to use ginger is to make a spicy ginger tea. I make it by putting a few slices of ginger, a slice of lemon, a pinch of cayenne, a spoonful of honey, and a few drops stevia liquid into a cup. Then I pour in some hot water and let sit for a few minutes. Then I strain the tea and enjoy! It will really warm you up in the winter time, which is a great time to drink ginger because of its cold prevention properties.

Another way to use ginger is to make a quick miso soup. Boil some water with a few slices of ginger, a few cloves garlic, and a piece of kombu seaweed. Reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes. Then add some miso paste to taste and some chopped green onion, cilantro, and some precooked Soba (buckwheat noodles). Voila! Easy ginger miso soup!

Another quick and easy way to use ginger is to buy a ceramic ginger grater. They are inexpensive and really easy to use! They collect the hard fibrous ginger strands and leave you with a beautiful juice you can pour into salad dressings and other recipes. I like to pour my ginger juice into some lime juice, raw sesame seed oil, and tamari to make an easy salad dressing to pour over a nice cucumber seaweed salad.

Hope you enjoyed this article about how to easily use ginger. For more info on the ceramic ginger grater please check out the resources below.

Struggling Freelance Writer on a Budget? Rationalize This!

So I hear you want to open a copywriting business on the web. Congratulations and my best to you! Trouble is, you're stuck in Mediocre Land, because you can't afford to get the tools you need to start commanding respect with decent looking website outfit. Am I right, or am I right? Get out of the rut and get serious about your business. May I present: Dina's Suggested Sacrifices/Spending Rationalizations for the Struggling Freelance Copywriter on a Budget

1. Movie tickets and beer in exchange for an autoresponder service.

How much money did you spend on movies and beer this week, huh? Did you really need to fork over your cash to the slack-jawed, tinsel-toothed cashier at the local movie house so you could be the first in line for Snakes on a Plane or The Black Dahlia? You know it's all coming out on cable eventually anyway. And how about all that hops and malt that's constantly flooding your intestines, and the $7-a-pack Marlboro Ultra Lights you keep dragging on while the Saga of Your Meager Existence drags on? Is that healthy? Will these costly habits help to grow your business?

A good autoresponder service is either a. free if you select a minimum-feature service, or b. about $60 per month if you want a shopping cart/ezine in one, with the option to sell e-product on autopilot. Ooh, 60 per month is a lot of dinero, you say? Try cutting that much out of your grocery bill instead. Oh come on, do you really need that 2-pack of Ring Dings or the instant miso soup? Can you shred up a carrot and some cabbage yourself instead of paying extra for the bag of instant slaw? Buy a frozen Purdue Oven Stuffer Roaster and eat it for 4 days straight instead of paying $7 a pop for the rotisserie chicken that you're only going to fling into the garbage at the end of a bloated, chicken-flavored day.

Why is an an ezine list manager/autoresponder worth it? Because this is where your paying clients come from. If you need further schooling on this, visit the ezine management section of my website.

2. Sordid gossip in exchange for self-taught Photoshop lessons.

I know, you can't wait to hear what happened with your best friend's mother's sister and that rat bastard of a husband of hers. And the celebrity gossip blogs are just too juicy to pass up. Or are they? Really, is piddling away your time talking to small-minded people (forgive me, maybe your best friend is one in a million, but tell me that trivial matters aren't sucking up 80% of your time that could be spent more constructively) doing anything to further your career? Is it? Are these spinster cronies of yours, with their neon-lit MySpace pages looking out for Numero Uno? Does a flood of new paying opportunities come pouring in each time you fill out of one those "Take the Survey" email forwards?

If you don't have Photoshop and don't want to spring for it, do a Google search for "The Gimp" photo editing software. Download it for free and have yourself a merry old time. When you get good at it, create your own logo. Yes, you. All that doodling practice you got in fourth grade is about to pay off. Take your artistic skills and put them to work for your business. Gossip might while away the hours, but it somehow leaves your heart empty. Photo editing fills deep hidden crevices of the soul and goes where trite conversation just can't reach.

3. Bitching and moaning in exchange for instant web articles.

We all love to complain about our jobs, and I'm no exception. But wouldn't it be grand if instead of sending that list of gripes to your work cronies who are too busy toting their own weary loads to truly acknowledge your plight, you turned the kvetching into web content. If you think about it, the nastier of a mood you're in or the more frustrated you feel, the more likely that great writing is going to pour out of you which then can be turned into various marketing items: blog posts, EzineArticles, networking topics, and more. The trick, really, is to learn how to turn your sour grapes (complaints and problems) into wine (solutions), and then recycle the material for use to blast your name out there. You think I'm kidding? I couldn't be more serious. Where do you think I get the material for the pulsing heap of article spewage I give birth to each and every month?

How to find a good set of article sites to submit your bitching-in-disguise? Go to Google, type in your niche topic, and then the words "submit article" in quotes. Bingo, a fresh list of niche-targeted places to publish your work. By the bye... the article writing method that I just described works as both an instant web content generator, and a great way to self-coach your way out of the pits of despair.

4. One trip to Target per season, in exchange for one new website design.

Put down the ceramic coasters with the camels printed on them and back away from that rack of leg warmers. You don't need to usher in fall's hottest designer trends ala Tar-JAY (that's phonetic "French" spelling of Target and I don't know where the accent key is) as much as you think you do. You say you grew out of those old Levi's and you simply must replenish last year's supply of turtlenecks in multi colors, all of which now sport unsightly pills and baby drool stains of varying shades? Okay, fine... buy the jeans, then. And if you must proceed with your reckless shopping frenzy, toss a couple of business-related purchases onto the evil black conveyor belt. May as well put the plastic toward some hanging file folders and a zip drive.

7 Tasty Foods From Asia

When traveling in Asia make sure you try some of the tasty local cuisine. There are many exotic dishes to choose from but these are the ones we highly recommend:

Beef Rendang

As Indonesian and Malaysian citizens debate which country was the original inventor of this dish, delicious servings keep coming up in both countries. Slowly cooked in coconut milk, the variety of spices used are absorbed into the meat, enhancing the flavour. It's commonly served with rice.

Pad Thai

Who would have thought noodles could taste so good? Try some from a street stall or cart in any Thai town. For around a dollar, you are unlikely to be disappointed. To eat the way the locals do, help yourself to the condiments available, by adding in some chilli, vinegar, sugar and maybe a bit of fish sauce and then mix it all up.

Bibimbap

Arguably Korea's best dish, bibimbap mixes vegetables, meat and rice with some chilli sauce in a bowl. Dolsot bibimbap comes in a hot stone bowl, giving the rice a nice crispy texture. Make sure you stir it all up for a nice even result!

Peking Duck

One of the secrets that make Peking Duck so delicious is that ducks earmarked to become "Peking ducks" are specially raised and slaughtered with their final purpose in mind! A duck is a lot for one person to eat, so go along with a group and enjoy the fun. Chefs sometimes cut up the duck in front of diners. From there it's self service, with each diner adding a little duck, hoisin or sweet bean sauce, and some thin spring onion strips to their own soft, tasty pancake which they wrap before eating.

Laksa

Popular in Malaysia and Singapore, there are several variants of this tasty soup. It usually contains noodles and tofu, possibly coconut milk and then a variety of seafood for that version, or chicken for the non seafood inclined. With so many variants, find a local stall and take the plunge!

Tempura

Batters on traditional fish and chips are usually tasty, but can be a bit too crunchy on occasion. How the Japanese manage to make their tempura batters so incredibly delicate and soft might just be a mystery to some fish and chip shop owners! Prawn tempura is a popular favourite, with fish being another option. A good range of vegetables including capsicum get the tempura treatment. Eggplant is a beauty! Whilst in Japan, look out for tempura lunch sets which can be great value, including not just tempura, but often rice, pickles and some miso soup.

Yum-Cha / Dim Sum

OK, the author doesn't know all the names of those succulent little Chinese treats, tantalisingly brought around, trolley after trolley, but in any case, they are too numerous to name! With popular staples like spring rolls and pork dumplings, there's something for those a little scared of the more exotic offerings. Point and pick selection ensures culinary heaven is just seconds away!

Cheap Travel Insurance might be able to help with the doctor's bill, if one gets a bit too adventurous with chillis.

What to Do to Relieve Stress - 25 Easy to Do Tips

Breathing Exercises

Take a moment to close your eyes and focus only on your breathing. Inhale slowly through your nose. Feel your diaphram move up into your ribcage and extend your belly outward as you inhale.

Slowly push out your breathe as you exhale through your mouth. Feel the stress being breathed out of your body. It is no longer a part of you.

Each breath should take 6 seconds to complete. Spend 3 seconds slowly inhaling through your nose and the other 3 seconds slowly exhaling through your mouth. Take 5-10 breaths like this and you'll instantly feel more relaxed.

Drink Green Tea

L-theanine is an amino acid found in tea plants. It also promotes relaxation and modifies the stimulating effects of the caffeine present in green tea.

What does that mean exactly? Well L-theanine is a caffeine antagonist, meaning that it offsets the "hyper" effect of caffeine. That is why many people will have a "soothing" cup of tea and not a soothing cup of coffee. Green tea contains more theanine than the other teas.

Try drinking Green Tea in the morning for a more gradual and calming wake-up boost.

Listen to Music

Sit back and relax to your favorite tunes. I love listening to classic rock. If you're feeling nostalgic, put on something that will transport you to another place in time.

Escape and think of nothing but the music. Try to play songs with a positive or uplifting message. Really it's up to you. Just enjoy and have fun!

Take a Foot Bath

Even if you don't actually own a foot bath, you can fill up a large bowl with warm water and have a nice long soak.

Put in some bath salts to give your feet a soft smooth feel. Add some flowers and lavender if you like to really add to the pampering quality of this experience. Put on some relaxing music and sit in a comfy chair while your soothe your cares with this moment of zen.

Meditate on Gratitude

Take a few minutes to think about all the things you are grateful for. It could be as simple as feeling grateful for the food in your fridge or the way your puppy dog loves you. Take the time to appreciate all the gifts you have in life and how lucky you are to have them. When you show thanks for the good in your life, more good will attract itself to you.

I spend 5 minutes every morning meditating on gratitude while I take a shower. It's amazing how it always starts me off in such a great mood for the day.

Exercise

Although Cardio Exercise like running or bike riding is more effective for relieving anxiety, weight lifting works well too. Really, just getting to the gym in general and burning off some steam is a wonderful way to feel better.

Exercise doesn't just provide a physical release. You're also providing a mental release as well.

By exercising, you couterbalance your negative thoughts with a positive feeling that you are taking steps towards improving your health. In effect, you cast aside worry and calm your mind with the natural high of working out.

Get Rid of the Clutter

Feng Shui is the art of creating a serene and relaxing home. Part of this study involves clearing the clutter from your environment. Clutter creates a sense of confusion and chaos. By cleaning up your home, you're essentially clearing out the clutter from your mind.

I feel so much better after doing just a little bit of housekeeping. I find it extremely relaxing to be in a clean home.

I personally like getting rid of old clothes. If I haven't worn them in a year, then they are wasteful clutter and can be given away.

Get a Massage

Take the time to treat yourself to a massage. You deserve it. A massage is not only relaxing, it also promotes healthy blood circulation and overall well-being.

So go ahead, pamper yourself and feel good about it. Afterall, you're not just doing something good for your mind. You're also promoting a healthy body.

Go for a Walk

Nothing clears my head like a nice brisk walk. This is even better if you have beautiful backgrounds of nature to stroll through.

Whenever I visit my extended family (they live in the country), I always make time for a 10 minute walk around their lake. As you walk, think about the rhythm of your body as you stride from one step to the next. It's calming to focus on your breathing. Concentrate on each breath and empty your thoughts and you move along.

Aromatherapy

Connecting certain fragrances to an emotionally uplifting situation will trigger a relaxation response. For example, try lighting some of your favorite incense or fill your home with the aroma of potpourri while you sit back and meditate your worries away.
If those aromas are too strong for you, you can buy a less pungent smelling Glade air freshener. They just plug into any outlet and you can adjust the amount of fragrance that they release.
I personally love using Glade plug-ins. Vanilla is my favorite. It's a gentle scent that eases my mind.

Do Charity work

When you help others, you take the focus off yourself. Taking the focus off yourself is a big part of overcoming anxiety. You internalize less and simply live in the moment, taking pleasure in the world around you. Feel good about yourself for doing a positive thing for others.

Read

Escape to another place and time. Live in someone elses shoes for a while and leave your troubles behind. Reading is actually another form of meditation.

You leave your own thoughts and simply follow a scripted story. You're essentially just going along for the ride and forgetting the world around you.

I doesn't matter what you read as long as it takes your thoughts elsewhere. This is a healthy break from things and will relieve anxiety within minutes.

Write out Your Thoughts

If you feel anxious or upset, write down your thoughts in a letter or diary. Sometimes, getting it all out on paper can feel like you're getting out of your system. Don't meditate on your negative thoughts. Simply spill them out in front of you. Feel the words leaving your your mind and making room for a more peaceful state of consciousness.

Take a Hot Bath

Let your muscles relax and sit in peace as the water calms and soothes you. Light some candles to create and even more tranquil environment. Play music to heighten the effect. There's no rule that says you can't turn your bathroom into a getaway spa if only for an hour.

Avoid Caffeine

This may sound like a bit of a tough one. I myself used to be a bit of a caffeine addict. And guess what? This was right around the same time my anxiety was at its worst. Sound like a coincidence? Not really.

It's easy to think that caffeine heightens you mood. Afterall, it's a stimulant. But the crash that you get from a strong caffeine high is enough to bring on extreme anxiety and depression. So do youself a favor and start weening yourself off the caffeine train.

I now start every morning with Green Tea and I eat a Granny Smith apple with my breakfast. Granny Smiths have been proven to actually wake you up just as much as a cup of coffee in the morning.

Stretch

Every night before bed, take 5 minutes to stretch. Even if it's just touching your toes, every bit helps.

When you stretch, you relieve tension in your back and muscles. You'll feel calmer and more relaxed instantly. This is a great way to prepare for a fantastic night's sleep.

If you prefer not to stretch right before bed, you can stretch before going to the gym. It helps circulation and prevents injury as well. This anxiety reliever takes just minutes and it really does wonders.

Eat Chocolate

Chocolate releases phenylethylamine in the brain. This so called "chocolate amphetamine" causes changes in blood pressure and blood-sugar levels leading to feelings of excitement and alertness. It works like amphetamines to increase mood and decrease depression.
It's been said that chocolate creates a feeling of "being in love". I just like the taste myself. But if you needed some extra convincing to eat a piece of chocolate, know that it's been proven to relieve anxiety.

Smile

Smile and think of a time when you were most happy. Think of a funny moment, a family member you love or a time when you dared to try something new.

Smile and think positively. Throw your negative thoughts out of your head and shield them off with a broad, life-loving smile.

Share your smile with others. When you smile at someone, they can't help but smile back at you. It's part of human nature. Smile and bring joy into the lives of others. Smile and keep that smile for as long as you want to. The choice really is yours.

Guided Imagery

Guided Imagery is just a fancy way of saying visualize something that calms you. When you feel anxious or stressed, close your eyes. Picture a serene setting where you'd love to escape to.

For me, my visualization involves laying in a beautiful grassy field under a wise, angular tree that stretches high above me. The sky is clear, sunny and ominous with breathtaking clouds. There are no bugs in my vison and the temperature is just perfect. A cool breeze engulfs my body in a refreshing whisper. I'm barefoot and the grass cushions my body with soft feathery support. I feel as light as air and my mind drifts off into sleepy bliss.

Get the idea? It's good to make your vision as detailed as possible. Become completely emersed in the escape and leave your anxiety out of the picture.

Sex

I find it impossible to feel anxiety when I am completely carried away with lovemaking. Sex is healthy, good for the mind and body.

It rejuvenates you and makes you feel completely alive. This anxiety reliever should not be overlooked. When you are completely swept away by the love of your partner, you forget about all of life's stresses.

Take a vacation from the anxiety in your mind. Instead, fill your head with the thoughts of love for another. Then indulge yourselves and think of nothing but the moment.

Repeat a Mantra

As the Law of Attraction States, thoughts are things. So when you think negatively, negative things will come into your life. Conversely, when you think positively, positive things will come into your life. Having a Mantra is a great way to control your thought pattern and relieve anxiety.

When you're feeling anxious, have a mantra or short prayer memorized that you can repeat in the moment. Everyone's mantra will be different and tailored to their own anxiety but my mantra is:

"I am a kind, loving person. I strive everyday to be the best I can be and all good things flow to me from the universe. Any worry or stress I have now will not make a difference in the longterm of my life. My life is good and will continue to be good. I am blessed for all that I have. The only opinion that matters in life is the opinion of myself. I love myself."

You can make your mantra whatever you choose. Make it something that speaks to your mentality and comforts your soul. Repeat your mantra in times of doubt and confusion. Hold firm that it is the truth. Your mantra will be your relaxing touchstone.

Eat Your Favorite Food

I'm not telling you to go out and binge eat to get over your anxiety. Obviously that's not a healthy strategy. However, you are allowed to indulge in your favorite comfort foods when things get particularly stressful.

My comfort food is sushi. I like it when it's super fresh and the rice is still slightly warm. I add a little hot Miso soup to the mix to really make me feel cozy. This is my relaxing meal. What's yours?

Go by or Near Water

This could be as simple as laying by a pool or walking along the shoreline of your favorite beach. Water naturally has a calming effect on us.

The calming effect is thought to be derived from the peaceful time when we were in out mother's womb.

Some other ideas for going near water could be visiting an aquarium, watching a beautiful lightening storm from your window, taking a walk around a lake or even simply taking a hot shower.

Grab Your Blankie

Your "Blankie" is symbolic. It can be anything that gives you comfort. My "Blankie" is my wedding ring. In times of high anxiety, sometimes I just look at my ring. I'll think of my husband and the love we have for one another. I am instantly soothed.

Maybe you have a lucky charm as your blankie? A necklace? A favorite sweatshirt? A great pair of jeans?

Your blankie can be anything. Think of it when panic arises.

Take a Nap

Sometimes Anxiety can simply be brought on my an overtired state of mind. Take a break and snooze away your stress. You'll wake up refreshed and ready to start the rest of your day with a more patient and relaxed state of mind.

The laziest miso soup EVER

This is the laziest miso soup! When I am hungry at night, I make this since I dont want to eat something naughty or carb after 8pm. It is great since I dont need to use any pot, knife and chopping board. It is surely better than eating naughty chips or toast. This miso soup is especially great for vegetarian or vegan people. The little packet of instant miso contains bonito which is fish. Some vegetarian people dont know that. So be aware for the instant miso which got fish and quite often MSG

Weight Loss Probiotic - Healthy Bacteria For Fat Loss

Digestive Health

Another major concern is that if your digestive system is performing poorly a good diet will not give you the full benefit due to all the nutrients from your food being undigested and sometimes leaving the body unable to produce vitamins. Which means you might as well eat whatever you want if your not actually absorbing any of the nutrients and vitamins and minerals you need.

Good Bacteria for Weight Loss

There is a clear connection between the amount of good bacteria in our bodies and the ability to loose weight. Without enough healthy bacteria in the body your body will be unable to process foods and absorb nutrients. Without proper digestion the body can find it difficult to remove toxins and will sometimes hold onto fat.

By simply promoting the growth of good bacteria in your digestive system you can put your body in the right mode for burning fat and staying healthy. There are always levels of good and bad bacteria in the body and by making dietary changes and avoiding prescription medications and overly processed foods we can help to improve our digestive systems and our health.

Weight Loss Probiotic - Foods that promote beneficial bacteria

Weight loss probiotic's include foods which are left to age or ferment over time, these types of foods develop the beneficial bacteria which is easily absorbed into the body.

Healthy Bacteria foods include:

- Miso Soup
- Organic Natural Yoghurt
- Kimchi
- Inulin

The easiest way to get your beneficial bacteria is through yoghurt and it should clearly say on the container the amount of live bacteria contained within it. The other option is the fiber supplement inulin which promotes healthy bacteria and can be added to your fruit juices and has no taste which makes it easy to add it to your cooking or snacks. The Diet Solution guide can help with healthy eating options and promoting fat loss.
